I gathered from this forum that during survival jobs, new immigrants realise need for taking up some courses pertaining to their profession so that they could get job in their own profession.

Since I am from insurance profession (currently waitng for my passport return), therefore I wish to invite all applicants and landed immigrants, who are from insurance profession, to share their thoughts/experience. Topics that might be of some interest to concerned forum members include:

1. What type of basic/shortest possible insurnace course to pursue to enter insurance industry
2. Which recognised institutes/colleges offer insurance courses as distance learning as well as class study
3. What is the estimated cost of such courses

I would highly appreciate comments from all forum members from insurance profession, as well as from senior members, specially from captain qorax.

Warm regards

I would also request landed immigrants from insurance profession to share their experience and observation as to:

1. how long it takes to get entry to insurance industry.
2. what is the minimum qualification (education/experience) acceptable to Canadian employer
3. which province provides better job opportunities in insurance industry

Appreciate your inputs.

In which NOC you applied, can you share your time line, by the way I am for insurance profession as well.

I have not yet applied, waiting for IELTS test on 4th Nov and then will apply as soon as Possible after getting the IELTS result.

Chartered Insurance Professional

For succeeding in your profession u'd require a qualification like CIP in Canada.

For more about it u may like to visit their site...

Humber College offers a course for u guys, read here...

Also check the following and look out for courses under the appropriate career path.

BTW what is your role within Insurance Industry?

for me, I worked as loss adjuster, claim examiner, underwriting officer and now underwriting manager.

With regards to Insurance qualification, I am a Chartered Insurer (Associate of chartered insurance institute, London) this is a prime qualification in Asian and European Insurance market. However I dont know if this Chartered Insurer status will have any leverage N.America.

ANyways I do not have any ego issue or minimum Job / salary requirements, If i got a chance to migrate, I can do any respectable Job for survival and settle down, nd if my qualification are not accepted there, i can try to acquire some of theirs, during that tenure

Dear humsafar, Derry and Captain74

Very many thanks for your contributions. Pleassure to know that Insurance Professionals are also part of this forum.

I completed my landing formalities just last month and came back. During my stay in Canada, I met one of my old friends who is living there for over 7 years. Before migrating to Canada, he had worked in Insurance industry for many years at senior level and once attained the position of CEO with one of the world's renowned insurance companies. He shared his experience with me which I hope would be of interest to you guys.

He holds ACII diploma, but this didn't work in Canada, as any qualifications acquired outside Canada is generally not recognised by Canadian employers. He then completed CIP diploma and again couldn't get a job even at entry level, as he was having no Canadian experience. Finally he started his own business in another field and living on that.

I think different people have different experience in securing job in their own profession, so one should not disappointed by failure of another, but before entering Canada, we have to keep some alternative in mind, in case we do not succeed in getting a job in our own profession.

Wish you all the best.
