INSURANCE FOR PRE EXISTING CONDITION LIKE PREGNANCY

We have completed medicals and expecting visas soon and plan to travel february 2010. I am pregnant and plan to deliver in canada before the commencement of the cover.

Has any body done insurance for pre existing condition like pregnancy? if yes which insurance company and rates?

Has anyone used Arbetov Insurance and wealth management Inc for procuring insurance?

I know this is too late but did you gave birth in canada and were you able to get insurance quote ? Please reply, we are in the same situvation currently.

in case of late pregnancy i suggest u guys land in alberta or in mantiboa . as u will be covered from the very first day of landing.

The pregnancy should not be considered as pre-existing conditions (I am telling it as senior insurance agent).
It could not be covered for new immigrants. Most Canadian provinces provide you with the medical insurance
since the day you have arrived. The exeptions are BC, New Brunswick, Ontario, and Quebec.
It theese four provinces you won't be covered for the first 3 months. You should buy medical emergency insurance.
This insurance does not cover pregnancy. Sorry.

My wife is 3 months pregnant now amd we are planning to land on her 5th month,

Will she be covered on the day of the landing, is pre-natal covered on this?

yes ramosorevitno, you are fully covered in Alberta and Minitoba!!

personally my wife was planning to land and deliver baby in Ontario, but realized later on that it will cost about CAD 10,000. so we changed plans to Calgary where coverage starts from day 1.

When are you planning to land in Calgary? Did you already find a place to stay?
How did you confirm/know about the coverage (pregnancy/prenatal), did you read it somewhere or someone has told you?
I know the basic helth is covere upon landing as per the members here in this forum.
But aboit preganacy I am still doubting.

Can you please share you thoughts?

i also heard that pregnancy is covered from the forum, but did not read it from an official source. i tried looking for it in the internet, but failed to find something that says pregnancy is covered. so i sent as email to the Ministry of Health and Wellness in Alberta asking about the coverage and the answer was as follows:

"Thank you for your inquiry.
All of the procedures and anesthetics involved in a routine labor and delivery or C-section are covered under Alberta Health and Wellness for Alberta residents. The only service surrounding the situation that is not covered is a routine circumcision for a new born male. You can contact our Claims Inquiry Line toll free at 310-0000-780-422-1600 or 780 422-1600 in the Edmonton area."

"Transportation by any means is not part of the Canada Health Act so it is not included in your health care benefits coverage. It is for this reason that citizens are encouraged to purchase extended plans like Alberta Blue Cross to cover those costs outside of standard health care benefits. If third party insurance is not an option for payment you would be responsible.
Prescription drugs are not covered by the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan."

I am not sure what Alberta provincial plan covers but I know that baby delivery is not an emergency.
It means that it is not covered with visitors to Canada insurance.
As I know from my clients (100% of them are immigrants) , people who don't have provincial coverage can use
free of charge medical service as for people without status. It is just in case.

It can't replace emergency medical insurance. It is better to have one rather than don't.

Alberta Health covers all your medical needs except dental and except elective surgery such as plastic surgery. Childbirth and pregnancy are covered. Doctors appointments are covered.

In Canada, there is a referral system so you have to be referred by a GP to see a specialist. Otherwise they will not give you an appointment. Therefore, you have to get coverage first, then you can see a GP and get a referral.

There is - but you have to purchased the insurance at least 10 months before you deliver the baby - in other words, you must purchase the insurance before you get pregnance.
