Hello guys,

I just need an advice - as my landing date was June 2nd, 2011 - but the PR card has been issued 6 month later due to some mistakes on the card, when I get the card I found the expiry is March 2017!! while it should be June 2016.

when I read the CIC website it was clearly stated that I should apply for PR card renewal 6 month prior the date of expiry, at my case I should follow the expiry date mentionned on the card (march 2017) and to apply 6 month prior that date (september 2016)? or should I apply now depending on the landing date and counting 5 years after.

another inquiry please... the imediate five years of application should be considered the date of expiry or the date of the 6 month prior the expiry ( considering the time of proceeding the application)

thank you
Simo

Five years validity from production date not from landing date.

1. You must count days from the day you landed in Canada not from the date your PR card i valid.
2. You can apply for PR card renewal at any time. You are recommended to apply six months before expiration because processing time takes about six months.
3. You need to consider only five years before application for PR renewal date
3. You haven't asked the question in the right section of the forum - this is citizenship section, you need to go to PR Obligations section of this forum.

Mostly concur in what has already been posted by others, including that this query should be made in the conference, here, for Permanent Residency.

For emphasis, however, there is no reason why the PR card should have an expiration date based on the date of landing. As noted, the expiration date of the PR card is five years from the date the card itself was issued.

And that date has nothing at all to do with the PR Residency Obligation.

To comply with the PR RO you cannot have been outside Canada for 1095 days or more since you landed, up to June 2, 2016, the fifth year anniversary of the day you landed.

After June 2, 2016, the PR RO is entirely dependent on the preceding five years, for whatever day it is. Thus, for example, as of August 3, 2016, compliance will be dependent on days in Canada between August 3, 2011 and August 3, 2016.

Thus, as of the day you apply for a new PR card, you need to have been in Canada 730+ days since that date five years earlier. Moreover, IRCC can also examine the PR for compliance with the PR RO as of any day after that while the application is in process, right up to the interview (if required, many times the card is just mailed) at time of picking up the card. (Technically an examination can take place for any date at all, it is just that examinations are not done unless triggered by a transaction of some sort, like arrival at a POE and seeking entry to Canada, or an action taken in the course of an application with IRCC, such as the application for a renewed PR card).
