Hi there,

I'm a little bit confused about the eligibility and processing time for Quebec health insurance card.
Official website states that an immigrant is advised to apply for health insurance right after landing in Quebec, even though the insurance will not be effective unless after 3 months.
However, some people concluded that even applying for the insurance should be 3 months after landing.
Also, regardless when I'd apply for it, how much processing time does it usually take?
I'm planning to land in Quebec briefly just to prepare necessary documents such as PR card, NIS and Health insurance card. So, I'm trying to figure out how long should I stay.
Thanks in advance.

people are generally covered by the plan after a three-month waiting period following their registration with the RAMQ. But some people from certain countries (france etc) are exempted from this waiting period.

I suggest you to go for private insurance for first 3 months.

But some services may be provided free of charge during the waiting period i.e services related to pregnancy, victims of violence, as well as services for individuals suffering from an infectious disease that could affect public health.

Thanks for your reply! but my question is, how much does it take teh RAMQ to issue my card?
if you are not from the exempted country then first 3 months i.e the waiting period, after that they will issue you a card.
