Greetings. I have some question regarding permanent residence.

So my 53-year-old mother has a visitor visa to stay with me while I'm studying in Canada. I'm gonna stay here for more than 5 years, so we were thinking of applying for a permanent residence visa for her.

1) Does she have to cancel her residence in our home country?
2) Are the days she spends here in Canada while having a long-term visitor visa counted for citizenship purposes?
3) Can she leave Canada for a few weeks on holidays?
4) Can she apply for permanent residence while she's in Canada and while her visa is still a visitor visa?

Thanks!

1) No.
2) EDIT - sorry this should say partially. It will depend when she gets PR. All five years will not.
3) Yes - but whether she is allowed back into the country and for how long is up to the CBSA officer she speaks to at the border. Note that she would have been allowed into Canada for up to six months for this visit (possibly shorter). She would need to apply to extend her stay to be here longer.
4) Yes.

Think you need to review a few things. It is highly unlikely that your mother will be able to remain in Canada as a visitor for 5 years. If she is in her 50s she is unlikely to be able to qualify for PR through express entry. I assume your mother only received the visitor visa because you are required to return to Kuwait if they pay for your studies.
