WTF!

I was told by a few people who had either gone thru this process personally in the past and an ex immigration consultant that the AIP-Landing Appointment was a matter of a few weeks.......

I just called, and for the first time I actually spoke to someone and it seems now its 9 months, what happened?!

This ruins my plans for the next year, I think. We were planning on returning to the UK for xmas then travelling for a few months in Asia for our Honeymoon(we've been waiting since we married in sept'09) before returning to the UK for our 2nd Wedding(UK LEG!) .......then coming back home to Canada to buy a house and settle down.

Now, apparently, so long as i don't get refused entry back into Canada it'd be OK to travel to the UK for Xmas, and I assume that so long as I don't spend more than 6 months in any one country it wouldn't affect my police clearance situation. BUT I wouldn't be IN CANADA....Although I obviously intended to be for the duration of my application and thought I'd left enough time.

Assuming my landing appointment would now happen in July and I've bought the flights to and from the UK (out dec and return in july) What the hell should I do? Kinda freakin out a bit and really thought we were nearly over the line, but realise we're about halfway.

PLEASE HELP! Any ideas?

Hey Asta, just the AIP, got it around sept 23rd. I thought the wait for the landing appointment was just a few weeks, but apparently 9 months now!

after AIP they do security and background checks and that can take up to 9 months. Even after that depending on your local CIC, you can add 1 to 4 months for landing appointment.

so sorry bout ur disinformation! its true that some people take it few weeks or even few days to get PR but it was not a rule. sometimes it takes even a year and more. depending on ur situation. and im not sure about this new 9 months period. is it for everyone a must or just a maximum wait. we will see if anyone of us gets PR faster than that.

With AIP, they check on basic stuff.. ie. if your sponsor is eligible to sponsor, Marriage fraud, if you are truly who you say you are, If you were sponsored before by anyone else, if your sponsor has sponsored anyone else, and if you are legally in canada,. They go through your application with a toothpick. making sure everything is ok. They dont touch anything to do with security during the first stage approval. First stage approval doesnt necessarily mean you will get PR!. If there is something wrong with your application , they request further information from you, If there is something thats not too clear, They transfer it for a more personal touch and further investigation to your local office (depending on which it is) So that an officer can interview you or get in touch somehow by phone or something to clarify whatever it is thats causing the clarification issues with it.

Delays can be caused by which Local office you are in. They choose the local office depending on what area is closest to where you live. I here the most busiest offices are in Edmonton, Etobicoke, Scarborough probably Vancouver. and maybe a few others that i dnt know about yet. The smaller city you live in/smaller office, the faster your process will be
The busier the office, the longer the wait. Unfortunately, sopme people can wait for up to 2 years inland to get PR if their file has been transferred,

Some people are very very lucky, they get transferred and a couple of weeks later they get a date for an interview and get interviewed/landed in only a matter of weeks.
The second stage is now the "further investigation" they perform with your hopme country and canada and all the countries you have lived. This is where the long or short wait comes in. They do their own security checks and it depends how "slow" or "fast" these security checks take and when they come back if they come back quick or if the country you have lived before has a slow slow system... The more countries you have lived in, the longer the wait. Canada just doesnt take your police certificates and go by that, they do their own checks. Im not too sure how exactly this works but i know they definitely do security checks.

If you apply for an Open Work Permit with your application in the beginning, CIC states that your open work permit coincides with how long it will take for you to get landed!. So there thats an idea of how long you may be waiting for PR!

Ive not yet read here on the forum if anyone has been denied PR after AIP but its a possibility that you cant overlook especially if you are a "threat" to canadas economy.

If you plan to travel, i may not risk it if i were you because incase you are not let back in for whatever reason, your application is cancelled. This is especially true if you require a visa to get back in the country and you have nne and this is esp true if you are granted PR and you arent in the country. .
I know i have travelled before but i was taking huge huge risks in doing so. anything happens and honestly, it is not worth it to risk losing your aip and starting all over again..

Hope i helped!!.

Great news ! Although it does say for Adult Permanent Residents , AIP is first stage of approval .
I called the centre this week and explained I did not have PR but did have letter accepting sponsorship and they booked an appointment for me to go in and have a test. They said I could start the courses with just the letter as proof, so I would contact your local office and find out...could help the time go by a bit faster? :)

Lets hope that that doesn't change when I actually go in and maybe speak to someone else! We know how that goes....

Cheers Black-Berry, a great help.

We may well risk a visit home for Xmas mainly because the guy at the call centre said it would be ok so long as I'm not refused entry on our return. Its pretty reasonable to want to see your family that you haven't seen for 18 months.

It'd be interesting to know for what reason you might be refused entry. I have a years OWP and an etended visitors visa and will obviously be travelling with my Canadian wife. I really hope so anyway or I've burned almost $2000 in flights!

visitor's visa expires when u leave the country. unless its multiple entry. next time u enter Canada, u kind of have to get new one (like 6 months permission to enter / stamp on passport).

I can understand wanting to risk going home for a visit but I don't think it is worth it. If you aren't from a visa exempt country or carry a visa then the chances of getting back are slim.

I miss my family too though. I haven't seen my mom in almost 2 years. She doesn't know how to use a computer so I literally haven't seen her and the only communication we have is through the mail and telephone. She recently got her passport though and is trying to find a way to fly up to visit me on my 21st birthday in March. I wish so much that prices on tickets would drop though so she could officially book a flight. I miss her so much. I am an only child and she is a single mom so we are the best of friends. I can't wait until she can see my hubby again because she treats him like her own son. And I can't wait until she can meet his family and see all the things I have been seeing for the past 1 1/2 years.

I don't know how everyones situation is but if your family is from a visa exempt country, has a visa, or can get a visa then I think if you miss family then you should see if they will come visit for a while. I know it isn't like going home but at least if you can see and feel the people you have missed then it can help revive you again. Plus if they have never been to Canada then you can show them around on a tour. It would be good for the whole family. This is just my 2 cents though. :D

Well so this is the beginning of another new week, I kind of hate weekends mainly because no one at CIC is working!!!!Heheheheh. I love weekdays now because that means that tiome is moving faster and cic staff are busy busting their B** ;)
the faster the time flies for me the better. Every day is a good day because there is potential that i may well hear something!...

well Hubby and i have been doing alot of talking this weekend. We have toyed with the idea of me withdrawing my application and we go to Bermuda as a family unit for two months with ll the kids because we cant bear to be apart even for a day!. rent our home for the period we are gone to cover the mortgage, ( we have a home in Bermuda so we have somewhere to stay!)
well Bermuda takes 13 months to process as per the cic website (which is shorter than the 18 months!!).

The reason being, we dont know how long it will be before we hear anything!. The CIC staff can tell you anyuthing!. The lady told me 1 to 2 months but maybe she just told me that so that i can be happy and not call. I havent seen even 1 person here from nanaimo so i have NO idea how long it will take. It may be six months to 18 months!. i know some inlanders who have been waiting from last year to get an interview and i was thinking. Wouldnt it be faster to apply outland?? ? ? .

But also it would be a risk because i may withdraw and then they call me for an interview the following day?

I am confused!. what do you guys thinkÉ. would it be worth it ? I mean this time i have a tonne of evidence!. like literally i have a huge box to put all my èvidence, im way better organised, waay better informed,.

Sometimes do you wish you had the chance to re-do this whole process? that is exactly how i feel now
Thoughts anyone ? ? ? ?

I have thought about what I would do in this situation in plenty of cases. Hubby doesn't understand why I do it but I just need to be prepared in case it does happen. Well in my opinion, I would just keep doing what you are doing because you are doing TREMENDOUSLY great. Keep it up girl. I understand the feelings of wanting to attempt it outland but why do that when you have a stable home here? As you stated you have made a home for yourself here so why leave now. You were lucky you got to meet with the IO that is going to interview you. I mean what luck. And as you stated, she sounded very nice and understanding. I can't see the interview not going your way. You brought your family with you and she got a good impression then and there. As you you said, you have so much evidence. There is NO WAY they can turn you down. They can only do that if you give them that chance and I know that both of you won't. Like you, if my file is transferred I will have a small CIC office. Unfortunately, I know the exact place it is and everytime I go by it, scares me. Because one day I am either going to walk out there the happiest person alive or the saddest and most pissed off person. I am going for happiest though.

I think the only reason they haven't called you in yet is because the file hasn't got there. Once it gets there, there should be no time until you hear from them. Put it this way though, the longer they take means the more time you have to build up evidence to the point they will question even asking you there. Sometimes I think they do it just to test the couples limits. Are they going to fight for it or give in? You are going to FIGHT. If you apply outland, they will still give you an interview and it may be with even more scrutiny than this one because you withdrew the inland one. I say just hold on strong. They are not going to separate you because they know your home is here. They really do want families to be able to be together but they have to go by the laws in order to do that. I am sure even they think what they have to go through is unfair. But I would say that you stay here because you get to stay longer together, you will get to go together to the interview, your kids stay in a stable environment, and you already have a bunch of evidence to show them. You are ready to go girl. Just stay strong and stay put. Don't let them bring you to their level. You will and can keep the family together.

What I am going to do is wait for an interview, order FOSS notes, gather evidence, practice interview questions, and go to the interview. If we happen to get refused then I will go home, I will get a job and maybe apply to school. He will visit for 6 months at a time if possible. I may see if I can enrol in the BUNAC program and work here for a year. Then while doing that, apply for PR again outland. I don't know how well this will play out but hopefully I don't have to try it out. But for now that is my plan and if it has to happen that way then we will try our best to work through it. Either way, we will end up together. And the same goes for you and your hubby. Just have faith in your relationship and they will see it. We are all here to support you and thinking of you all the time. We will be here to celebrate when all of this comes to an end for you. Good luck and hold tight.
