WTF!
I was told by a few people who had either gone thru this process personally in the past and an ex immigration consultant that the AIP-Landing Appointment was a matter of a few weeks.......
I just called, and for the first time I actually spoke to someone and it seems now its 9 months, what happened?!
This ruins my plans for the next year, I think. We were planning on returning to the UK for xmas then travelling for a few months in Asia for our Honeymoon(we've been waiting since we married in sept'09) before returning to the UK for our 2nd Wedding(UK LEG!) .......then coming back home to Canada to buy a house and settle down.
Now, apparently, so long as i don't get refused entry back into Canada it'd be OK to travel to the UK for Xmas, and I assume that so long as I don't spend more than 6 months in any one country it wouldn't affect my police clearance situation. BUT I wouldn't be IN CANADA....Although I obviously intended to be for the duration of my application and thought I'd left enough time.
Assuming my landing appointment would now happen in July and I've bought the flights to and from the UK (out dec and return in july) What the hell should I do? Kinda freakin out a bit and really thought we were nearly over the line, but realise we're about halfway.
PLEASE HELP! Any ideas?
With AIP, they check on basic stuff.. ie. if your sponsor is eligible to sponsor, Marriage fraud, if you are truly who you say you are, If you were sponsored before by anyone else, if your sponsor has sponsored anyone else, and if you are legally in canada,. They go through your application with a toothpick. making sure everything is ok. They dont touch anything to do with security during the first stage approval. First stage approval doesnt necessarily mean you will get PR!. If there is something wrong with your application , they request further information from you, If there is something thats not too clear, They transfer it for a more personal touch and further investigation to your local office (depending on which it is) So that an officer can interview you or get in touch somehow by phone or something to clarify whatever it is thats causing the clarification issues with it.
Delays can be caused by which Local office you are in. They choose the local office depending on what area is closest to where you live. I here the most busiest offices are in Edmonton, Etobicoke, Scarborough probably Vancouver. and maybe a few others that i dnt know about yet. The smaller city you live in/smaller office, the faster your process will be
The busier the office, the longer the wait. Unfortunately, sopme people can wait for up to 2 years inland to get PR if their file has been transferred,
Some people are very very lucky, they get transferred and a couple of weeks later they get a date for an interview and get interviewed/landed in only a matter of weeks.
The second stage is now the "further investigation" they perform with your hopme country and canada and all the countries you have lived. This is where the long or short wait comes in. They do their own security checks and it depends how "slow" or "fast" these security checks take and when they come back if they come back quick or if the country you have lived before has a slow slow system... The more countries you have lived in, the longer the wait. Canada just doesnt take your police certificates and go by that, they do their own checks. Im not too sure how exactly this works but i know they definitely do security checks.
If you apply for an Open Work Permit with your application in the beginning, CIC states that your open work permit coincides with how long it will take for you to get landed!. So there thats an idea of how long you may be waiting for PR!
Ive not yet read here on the forum if anyone has been denied PR after AIP but its a possibility that you cant overlook especially if you are a "threat" to canadas economy.
If you plan to travel, i may not risk it if i were you because incase you are not let back in for whatever reason, your application is cancelled. This is especially true if you require a visa to get back in the country and you have nne and this is esp true if you are granted PR and you arent in the country. .
I know i have travelled before but i was taking huge huge risks in doing so. anything happens and honestly, it is not worth it to risk losing your aip and starting all over again..
Hope i helped!!.
