Hi!

I'm currently here from the US on a work permit. Got married in June, filed in October.

Sent in paperwork for spousal PR on October 18th.
Received Application Oct 27.
Began Processing Application Jan 6.
We received the requested information on February 16, 2010. Thank you for providing the information. (NO IDES WHAT THIS MEANS)

Does anyone know what the impact would be, if any, if I were laid off and had to change employers? Would the new application for a work permit have any impact on my status? Can anyone predict when I can apply for an OWP based on dates above? I was hoping for AIP in April but that might be wishful thinking. My paperwork is immaculate and complete.

Thanks in advance, this forum is awesome.

first of all bear in mind there are no exact times or dates for any two people ..... what i said was based on alot of people on this site and the times lines they have gone through . you also have to take into consideration some offices are backed up more than others so that might affect the different time lines across the country . of course its more comforting to have a shorter timeline , im not out to alarm anyone . the best i could say is do alot of research so you can set the best expectation for yourself and remember everyone has a different experience so nothing is set in stone .

For inland applications, if you did not apply for OWP with your PR app, then you can only apply for OWP when you get AIP. But since you already have a work permit, you might be able to apply for an extension on that sooner. I would say, go ahead and apply now for the extension, just in case your AIP does not come through in April. The last thing you want is to be here illegally. For PR apps, they are working on those received up until Aug 24. So you got at least another couple months yet until you hear on it.

Good luck to everyone here who has the misfortune of having made a within Canada Inland Spousal application! Whilst I realise my case is far from the worst, I wish you all better luck than I appear to be having.

I first came to Canada in April 2007, from England - I am an UK Citizen. I married my Canadian husband in December 2007. My father was very ill during that year and unfortunately passed away in October 2007, so I spent much of that year travelling back and forth and held off making an application for Residence until early 2008.

In February 2008 we sought advice from an immigration lawyer, and she suggested it best to make an inland spousal application - I now feel this was probably not the best advice she could have given, however we have stuck with it.

The application was made in March 2008 to CIC Vegreville and processing began in April 2008, medicals done, background checks done, sponsorship approved etc. and Approval in Principal finally granted in October 2008. I received my first Open Work Permit in January 2009 and have been working since April 2009. All was well and good except it is now approaching a year and a half since I received AIP. I was asked to go for another medical in January 2010 and we then approached our local MP to see if there was any particular reason for the delay. I have a 21 year old daughter who lives in England - she will not be moving to Canada however they have asked because she is under 23?! that medicals and checks are also done on her - they claim that it is those checks in the UK on my daughter that are holding the process up. I find this hard to believe, I also feel it is unreasonable considering she will not be moving here.

I have not seen most of my family in 2 and a half years.

I had to apply for a second OWP and almost lost my temporary job whilst waiting for that to arrive. I am 'so' looking forward to re-visiting the extremely rude staff at OHIP to request a second medical card.

My sincerest sympathy is with all of you here who are going through this inexcusably long winded process at the mercy of a very short-sighted, heartless and incompetant immigration office.

It was 2 1/2 months before my application even started processing. I really would not worry about that. As far as sending supporting materials, I would just wait until they ask you for more. There is a point where you just have to be satisfied with what you sent in. They will contact you when they need anything. As long as you followed the directions and gave them everything they asked for, I really would not worry about it.
Know that while inland generally does take longer, there have been some cases where they have pushed them right through. I think one person on here had theirs in about 8 months!

Just relax, and maybe its about time to try something new while you wait...maybe a new hobby, something you've always wanted to do if you had the time? These forums are very helpful, but there is always a chance that one can get obsessed. At some point it's best to just turn them off for a time and just occupy yourself with something else to take your mind off of your application.

Hello Inlanders,

Hoping that you could resolve my confusion around applying inland/outland for my spouse. I know the advantages between Inland and Outland - Inland, you can get to work while your application is being processed, but it takes ages to process and also if you leave the country, the application becomes void. For Outland, it is much quicker, my spouse will be staying with me on a TRV when the outland application is in process, but there is a chance her TRV extension to stay in Canada may be rejected.

However, I know you probably applied inland due to your own circumstances, but do you regret applying inland? Not meaning to add fuel to the fire here, but I don't want to end up in the same boat applying inland and then regretting for it even though most of you have posted that it is a painful wait.

Any recommendations will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Haha, yea i wasn't meaning to imply that you were obsessed just more a word of caution that one can get obsessed if not careful. This whole process really plays with your mind. I find it best to try and forget about it for a while.

First, I'm not sure where you got the idea that you can work while applying inland. Just to clarify--when you apply inland, you apply for an open work permit concurrently, and then 6 months after you send the app in (give or take a month or so) you application comes up for review for AIP (approval in principle, or first-stage approval). If you get AIP, then you get an open work permit sent to you, and then you can work. A TRV does not give you working priviledges, I believe, so the only way you could work prior to AIP, would be if you had a work permit.
The length of the application outland all depends on where you are from, as that is where the final stage of the app is processed. My bet is that it will still be shorter to apply outland, tho you'll have to check the processing times based on where you are from.

Actually, you can also get a work permit through a company, start working, then apply. Your permit is tied to the company, but you can stay here legally and work until you get AIP, then apply for the OWP. Or Send the OWP app on with the PR application.

I am doing this, thats how I know it's possible.

Correct, as I mentioned in previous post, "the only way you could work prior to AIP, would be if you had a work permit."

Hello all,

A lot seems to have happened for people since I last posted here which is good.

I called up CIC today to see if there was any progress with the processing of applications given that the "received up to..." part of the processing times hasn't changed much. I was told that they haven't started processing applications received after August under the family class sponsorship at Vegreville. Which seems strange to me as I've read on this forum that a few people have applications that are being processed that were received after August. I was also told in January that they weren't working on applications received after October not August so I've received mixed messages so far.

Any thoughts?

All the best.
