Hi, I am an American citizen trying to apply for residency. I’m a little confused if I can apply inland or not. I do not have a visa of any sort and cannot get one, but as an American citizen I can visit Canada freely. I have signed a lease for an apartment in Canada. I would like to apply inland so I can get a work permit but it is a little unclear if I can. Thanks for any help!

Are you applying for Permanent Residency under Express Entry or are you being sponsored under the Family Class?
Either way, you can apply from within Canada, but you will still need to qualify under the criteria for your chosen stream.

You can apply inland. However, it takes about 4 months to get the OWP and another 8 months for PR. Outland American apps generally take about 6 months altogether.
