Inland Spouse sponsorship - Upfront medicals or not?

Hi,

It seems that there are conflicting opinions on whether medicals should be done upfront for inland spousal sponsorship.
Since they last one year, and the process takes longer, won't the CIC request a new medical check in any case?

What is the benefit of doing upfront medicals in this case?

Read the checklist, proof of medical is to be submitted with the application. CIC can request IMRC extend the medical if necessary.

considering Inland processing takes more than 1 year, i suspect it's quite common to not submit the medical exam until it's requested. It's pretty much a waste of money. I believe CIC can only extend medicals if they have been completed within 15 months. I can't see it being an issue to wait, considering it's not an issue for outland. Again, just because it's required for the process, it's not necessarily required for submission.

It'll be interesting to hear expert opinions on this...

It looks like it's safer to submit medicals with the application, even though CIC will likely request another one.

How long are the results valid? Is it 12 months or 15 months?

valid for 12 months. CIC has the ability to extend them as long as they are done within 15 months i believe.

Those who have decided to not do their medicals upfront (as is the case for MOST of the applicants in the 2013 thread) are finding that it is taking much longer to also process their applications because they have to stop and wait for it to be done. Submit EVERYTHING they request and I think you will find CIC will opt to extend your medicals especially if you don't leave the country and are for the most part a healthy individual to start.
