Hello,

I am a Canadian Citizen and my wife is American. She has been here for almost 5 months so we need to apply for her PR as well as renew her tourist visa. I had a name change to restore a family name however I haven't been able to get a new passport in my new name yet. I have a passport in my old name which has not expired yet. In order to get my new passport I need a new health card in my new name which I just applied for but I wont get it for 4 to 6 weeks. I really need to apply for my wife's PR asap so she can stay here with me. Could I submit her PR application with my passport in my old name since the passport is still valid? I also have proof that I changed my name. As soon as I get my new passport could I send them a copy of that? I just want to get something in quick so my wife doesn't have to go back to the states.

Thank you

Hi
DON'T APPLY INLAND!!!!!!! APPLY OUTLAND!!!!!!!!!

Outland American apps are being processed in just a few months right now. It would be a huge mistake to apply inland. Apply separately to extend her visitor status.

Send your current passport and the name change document.

We want to apply inland because we want my wife to stay here with me. We have been in a long distance relationship for 6 years and we really dont want her to have to go back to the states again we have waited long enough lol. I understand Outland is a lot shorter but we dont mind we just want to be able to stay together.

There is nothing stopping you from applying outland, while your spouse remains in Canada. It is done all the time.

Really? So my wife doesnt have to leave Canada to apply outland?
No, she does not.

To repeat: Apply inland, its MUCH faster. She does NOT need to leave to apply outland. Good luck :)

As I stated in my first post, apply outland and apply separately to extend her visitor status.
