Hi

I am the PR sponsor for my common-law partner who is currently on PGWP, her PGWP expires on August 2024. I have come back to my home country for visiting family from 27 February 2024- 12 May 2024. We are thinking of submitting the sponsorship application while im still away. Will I be able to do so?

lf yes, Quick question about IMM5532e-Relationship information and sponsorship evaluation:
In Section 6. Residence in Canada, it asks “Do you live in Canada now?”, and the options are “YES” or
“NO: 1.When did you last live in Canada? 2.When do you plan to return to Canada to resume residence? 3.Where do you plan to live when you return to Canada?”
Do I answer Yes to this since I will be back anyway and I’m only on a short visit and also the fact that I am a PR and not a citizen , or No?

I do have proof of return: a return plane ticket and a letter from my workplace saying that they will re-hire me once I’m back in May.

Looking forward!

You can put "YES" to living in Canada. Right now, you're not in Canada, but you're only visiting, even if it is for a couple of months. You have proof that you will be back in Canada.

"NO" would be if you were living outside of Canada long term, and a 2-3 month stay outside of Canada wouldn't be considered long term. I assume you're staying with family, and not living in your own place for your visit? Besides a hotel, that is.

Thanks for the response! Yes I am staying with family during the vacation. Main reason for the visit is to meet my very old grandmother, and to celebrate a religious holiday with family after 5 long years.

Then yes, you would be still considered living in Canada. I'd assume that you have a permanent address to return to once you come back from your trip. The question for living outside Canada is more for people who have moved to other countries for long-term work. Visiting for a couple of months, esp if you rarely get to see your family otherwise, is pretty normal.

If IRCC has questions about it, you can show proof of residency through bills being issued/paid in that time period to show that you still have residence in Canada that you'll be going back to, and the letter from your employer is good to have as well.
