Inland spousal sponsorship - does she need to renew visitor visa?

At this point I guess we'll have to decide if it's worth cancelling inland and going outland (which carries a small risk of being called for an interview in HK).

I know the inland applications are being processed super slow in Mississauga right now, but I suppose there's the off chance they might get faster ...

Well, I'm worried about being called for an interview anyway because it would be a real pain in the butt no matter where the interview takes place. I don't think we have any red flags (unless frequent travel and having lived in many different countries is a red flag?), so I want to think that our chances are slim. Aaaaand, worst case scenario, we get called for an interview so we get to go to Paris! Any excuse not to be in Canada for more than 1 year straight!

Interviews are very rare for visa-exempt applicants. They are usually only called when there are big red flags and doubts about the genuineness of the relationship. Provided you have solid proof of your 4 years together and no big red flags (8 year age difference is not a red flag), there is pretty no much of an interview.

If you click on a member's username on the left, it brings up their profile. At the bottom, there is a link to see all previous posts by the user. It can be a big help to go through them and get an idea of someone's background before giving them advice.

Quick question : with the outland application process, after the stage 1 approval, my wife would have to leave Canada and come back in? And has the right to stay in Canada until stage 2 finishes?

She does not need to leave Canada after SA (sponsor approval). As long as she maintains her status (with a visitor extension) she can remain in Canada the entire time. She could then go to the closest land border to `flag pole' to land.

More complications lol. Applying for the visitor visa extension for my wife, I see that her passport expires March 2015! Since we're switching to an outland application, it means that stage 1 will be done by that time, but not stage 2. So does immigration Canada have any reason to extend her visa for a second time (once she has a new passport), given that we're doing an *outland* application?

Don't worry. As long as she shows sufficient proof of finances, they will extend her visa again. There are MANY people on the forum who have extended their status several times and stayed in Canada as a visitor for years during this process.

Thanks, I hope so! We live together and she obviously can't work, so her proof of finances are basically my proof of finances I provided records of my salary and monthly cheques from my company site, and bank records showing deposits over the past 4 months.

hi everyone, I am hoping someone can help me out on a few things?
I am a Canadian citizen (was living in Croatia) for the past couple of years. I am now back in Canada working and my husband has come with me on a tourist visa for 6 months. I would like to start the sponsorship application while he is here in Canada with me. Is it better to apply inland or outland? I am a bit confused now since reading the posts here.
He will most likely be staying here in Canada with me, I will extend his Visa after the 6 months is up.

Hi Chris,

You'll probably get more responses if you start a new topic about this in the Family Class Sponsorship forum.

I'm not expert, but based on what I know so far, outland is generally faster than inland. However, that depends which visa office is handling stage 2 of your application. If your husband is Croatian, then the Austrian office will handle it, and the current wait time is 17 months. Plus the stage 1 processing of probably 3-4 months. Inland, you are looking at 13 months + 8. So the times are fairly similar.

People have said that after stage 1 of outland, you can also apply for OHIP (though it takes an appeal process to do it), so that may be a consideration for you.

If you do inland, make sure you include a OWP so your husband has implied status while he is waiting.

Again, I'm not an expert on this, this is just what I've picked up from my own questions Try starting a new thread, and you'll probably get more feedback.
