Inland Sponsorship of US wife-to-be (Getting frustrated! :()

Hello,

I am looking for information on how to proceed with getting married in the US, and then sponsoring my wife to come live with me in Canada while applying for an inland spousal sponsorship. I have contacted a few immigration firms with no answer... so I'm getting a tad bit frustrated to be very honest.

The money situation is no problem as I have a full time job and can support her myself until she is able to work. I am very confused as to what is needed for her to come to Canada. Can she just come in on a 6 month visitor visa as long as she is not bringing all her stuff? (furniture, etc) I want to do this properly and don't want her to be stopped at the border for any reason...

I just need SOME sort of information about this and how the process works. Anybody. Vague or precise.. it doesn't matter.

Read through the information on the Visiting tab of the US2Canada website - you need the info about Visitor Records. That will tell you how to go about bringing your wife to Canada to wait out the permanent resident process. What I don't quite understand is what you mean by "how to proceed with getting in the US . . . "?

Also, I don't recommend that you apply to sponsor your wife via the inland sponsorship process - you can apply to sponsor her via the outland process, which doesn't take as long as preserves your right of appeal, even while she is visiting you in Canada during processing. You don't have to apply inland just because she will be waiting in Canada - she can have her application processed via Buffalo by virtue of her citizenship in the States. There is no residency requirement for outland, so she can be visiting anywhere in the world and still be eligible to have her ap processed "outland" through Buffalo.

Thanks for replying. I actually made a typo there and missed the word "married" ... I ment to type that we wanted to get married in the US, then come to Canada.

There are a few questions I have with the outland process... would immigration actually let her in the country for 6 months on a visitor visa? and let's say that the visa takes 10 months to process... she is only legally allowed to be in Canada for 6 months on this visitor visa. What then? Can she renew it in the country or does she need to leave for the remaining time?

Again, sorry for the typo. That actually made me post sound rather confusing!

She can stay in Canada for 6 months and then apply to extend her visitor status. It costs about $75 and is fairly easy to do.

Well, this sounds rather "easy" now... I thought it would be more complicated honestly... however she can't work so that's kind of a bummer.

I'm not sure if anyone can answer this... but I might as well ask. If we get married, her name changes. Is her passport still valid? Can she still get into Canada on her maiden name? We'd probably be going to Canada about a week after the marriage.

I don't know for sure, but would it not be a lot easier and less hassle/confusing if your wife keeps her maiden name until the process is finished? Especially because she will be going to Canada so soon after the wedding, she won't necessarily have time to change all of her id over legally to her married name. I would think waiting until she has her permanent residency to change her name would make things a lot easier.

Yes, she can use her PP with her maiden name to get into Canada, even if she intends to take your name after marriage.
