You’re right, for visitors, that is. It is very difficult to get proofs. That’s why we had to be creative. We also included joint stuff from when we both lived in the UK as we didn’t have much from Canada.
My Canadian partner and I are moving to Canada in July, we're in a similar situation when it comes to proof. Did they accept it without question? We're providing proof of every location we've lived together at in the UK, in addition to the limited proof we'll have available from Canada.

We are about 6 months into the process so hard to say whether We will be approved based on what we supplied but they did not ask for additional proof which is a good sign. Usually If they are not satisfied they request additional documents. We provided uk bank statements, uk utility bills, uk letters/postcards sent to us and letter from uk neighbors. For Canada we did letters from neighbor, health insurance policy, cell phone contract. Then we paper clipped in two sections and labeled UK cohabitation proof and Canada cohabitation proof. I’ll let you know if they ever say anything.

hold on, are we talking about spouses sponsorship or common-law?
Edit: just found out from previous posts that it's a spouse sponsorship. I have actually talked to a few immigration lawyers and none have ever raised this issue of me not having this sort of evidence. That's why I am a little dumbstruck and frustrated at their incompetency. Would you be able to tell me where I can find more information for Inland PR sponsorships? Plus, how did your spouse maintain a legal status given that the OWP took over 6 months?
Edit 2: found this information in the checklist form... mm sounds very strange to me for them to be asking this sort of documents. It's probably because it's the same application for common-law sponsorships and probably married couples do not need all this documentation.

Spousal applicants still have to provide evidence of cohabitation just not the 2 years cohabitation proof As is needed for common law. They only ask for a few documents such as joint bank statement/utility bill/rental agreement etc but Because we lived in the uk right up until a few weeks before applying in Canada we thought it best to supply more evidence as our in Canada cohabitation was limited. In addition as mentioned before it’s hard for visitors to get these documents so we included quite a few different things.

When you send an OWP in with your PR application you immediately have what’s called “Implied Status” until a decision is made on your work permit. Implied status is a legal status. So even though my husband’s visitors status expired he still had implied status allowing him to remain here.

Thanks a lot for the clarification. Also, thank you for confirming the implied status. I can get the proof that I am included in her employer's insurance plan (this would be a joint thing) then I can provide some individual proofs that I live at the same address as my wife. However, we cannot provide proofs such as House ownership nor tenancy agreements, since we live at my in-law's house and we plan to live there for quite some time (2-3 years given the housing situation in Toronto)... but again the lawyer seemed to have missed these details... I am doing my homework now and looking up more information around. Other than a joint bank account, and the ownership/tenancy contracts what could be considered as joint (excluding insurance)?

On the checklist and guide in the application package it states the kind of documents they want (I’m not certain specifically what they recommend I just remember joint bank, utility bill, rental/lease agreement etc) These are recommendations not that you HAVE to provide these specifically because it then states if you don’t provide 2 (?) of these specific documents then provide additional proof of cohabitation.

So we wrote a letter explaining why we didn’t have the things they were looking for i.e just moved to Canada, can’t get a joint account because of visitors status, etc. and supplied a a few documents from uk to prove we’ve been cohabitating. Along with a couple creative things showing same address. (We too we’re living with family when we first moved). Joint things may also include utility bills.

But remember, you can prove cohabitation by including separate documents that show same address eg. Wife’s cell phone contract in her name and showing address, husbands cell phone contract in his name but showing same address...if that makes sense.

Basically if you don’t have exactly What they ask for in checklist then provide a small (3 documents or so) of bonafide cohabitation proof. Your insurance plan is good then maybe 2 other examples and a brief letter stating why you don’t have the documents requested in checklist.

They won’t reject your application so there’s nothing to stress over about it, if unsatisfied they send you a request for additional documents.

As you’ll soon find the wealth of experience and In depth knowledge on this forum can sometimes surpass even an immigration lawyer’s experience so this is a good resource for you to double check things for yourself.
