Hi all,
I am a PR and got married last year though it was religious ceremony because we couldn't register our marriage officially because I was lacking one document. :'( My wife is from Ukraine. She recently applied for TRV (as a student) and luckily got approved. I was very worried about getting visa. Thanks to God.
She is coming here on a 6-month study permit. Since we are not officially married and therefore, we are planning to get married here in Canada.
My questions are:
Can I sponsor her while she is on the study permit?
What documents she needs to bring from her country for application?
Can she apply for open work permit along with sponsorship application?
My citizenship application is in process. Do I need to inform CIC about changing my marital status (after officially get married here)
Thanks in advance

Re: Inland sponsorship application 2013

Hi Jaisask,

Congrats on getting the visa.

Here are my thoughts about your questions:-

Can I sponsor her while she is on the study permit?
Yes you can sponsor her. In fact, in your application you can show/explain that you had a religious ceremony in your country and then officially got married in Canada. Do provide them with proof regarding your religious ceremony (photographs, wedding cards, reception bills, etc)

What documents she needs to bring from her country for application?
She would definitely need police clearance certificate/letter, birth certificate, college diploma and transcripts and work experience letter.
There is more information available on CIC website on how to obtain police clearance certificate.

Can she apply for open work permit along with sponsorship application?
Yes, but it will only be approved when you are approved for sponsorship (Stage 1).

My citizenship application is in process. Do I need to inform CIC about changing my marital status (after officially get married here)
Absolutely.

My recommendation to you would be to find a good immigration lawyer in Canada and seek their assistance. They roughly charge between 2000-2500, but it will be great help to you. Also, I would suggest that your wife has procured all documents before she leaves her country.

Good luck.

Re: Inland sponsorship application 2013

niks1: Thank for your reply. She is gathering all documents (mentioned by u) required for sponsorship application.

I havent thought about hiring a lawyer since we feel our case is a bit straight forward. i have been in Canada 6 years and have stable job with decent salary.
