Hello everyone,

My wife updated her passport during her inland PR process (family sponsorship) and now we're wondering what we need to do (or the preferred method) to get this updated information to CIC? I believe CIC said that we could either email this in or mail it in.

Email seems like the better option, but I wasn't aware that we could do this.

Opinions?

Send it through email and send it by mail as well... put your Client Id # and send a little note or letter explaining this update :)

excellent. do you know which email to send it to? i can't seem to find it anywhere.

also, which address should it be mailed to? our application was recently moved to Mississauga.,

Send an e-mail to the office handling her application (I assume Vegreville). Attach a scan copy of her passport. Make sure you include her File Number and UCI number along with the usual info (Name, DOB, etc).

For what it's worth, I also updated my passport while my application was in progress. I was told to send a copy of the new passport along with a copy of a drivers license or some other photo identification with my married name along with a cover letter that had my UCI information. They changed it as soon as the data was received.

sent the email in yesterday notifying them of the change. should we both sending it by mail also?

about how long does it take for them to make this change?

thanks!

I would also snail mail them a copy of this information. It took about a week or two for it to show up in my eCas as being changed.

What's eCas? We could see these changes ourself? I wasn't aware these types of changes could be viewed through the only application status portal.

Well, yes, when you log into eCas, it should have the applicants name listed there. Once her name is officially changed with CIC they will update it to reflect her new name ...

Well the name isn't changing. Its just the passport being renewed.

Was her name on your application and previous passport in her married name? If they were already in her married name what exactly was the point of your original post?

If her previous passport was in her maiden name then that is what CIC was using and they will now change it to reflect her married name.

in quebec, the wife keeps her name. the name doesn't change. we renewed her passport because it was expiring.

Oh. OK. I was under the impression she updated to a new passport reflecting her married name, yadda yadda. OK

All you should need to do is email a copy of the passport in that case, I think. It will be updated in the CIC files so her passport won't be an issue to getting her landing done.
