Inland PR application for my wife but we may be moving to the UK

We applied for PR (inland) back in January 2014 and have only received notification that they received our package so I not think we are even to the 1st stage. At this rate I believe it may be another year or more before anything is issued in terms of PR visa.

Now, however, it looks like my company will be moving me (for now) to the UK this fall. Is there any point in continuing with the PR visa application if we may eventually return to Canada in a few or more years or should I simply cancel it?

If we do cancel it would I need to apply for another visitor visa for her?
Appreciate any advice/feedback. Thank you.

Note: I am a Canadian citizen.

One of the mandatory requirements for an inland sponsorship application is that you must both be living together in Canada. If you leave, the application will probably be refused or abandoned. Best to cancel when you leave, and then to wait until you are ready to return to Canada and reapply outland through London.

Several (dare I say many) January 2014 Inland applicants are now getting AIP and even a few have received DM, so you might hear something sooner than you think.

Thank you for your replies. As we would be leaving this fall/end of summer (pending visa for the UK) there is likely little chance of the PR visa being issued before then. Taking that into consideration I guess that cancelling is the only way to go.

Unfortunate that we could have not received the PR sooner. Even if the PR was issued before we leave she probably would not be able to keep it as we will be out of the country.

I agree that, as you said we should probably apply again from the UK if we plan to return in the future (I hope having applied and cancelled once does not affect that).

No need to withdraw right away, though. You can submit the withdrawal request online and it only takes a few weeks to process. You can wait until you actually leave the country if you want to withdraw, there's nothing wrong with leaving the application in place just in case you don't end up leaving, on the off-chance that you could get approved and such.

Also, if she gets PR status before you leave, and you end up returning within 3 years, her PR status will still be valid and she can still fulfill the residency requirement before her card expires. Even if you get it and don't return after 3 years, as long as you voluntarily inform CIC that you don't fulfill the residency requirement, there will be nothing detrimental on her record that would prevent her from getting PR through sponsorship again.

Are you following the Inland 2014 thread?

A Feb 14, 2014 Inland applicant landed today, so I echo the `wait and see' suggestion.

Thank you for the advice. The problem is that we may have to leave Canada ahead of moving to go to the UK to arrange a residence so it may be cause a problem with her trying to get back into Canada as I understand that is an issue.

As long as she accompanies you out of Canada, and you don't stay anywhere for longer than a couple of weeks, I don't think you will have any issues.

As long as she is living with her Canadian citizen spouse, she is exempt from the residency obligation. After she gets PR you guys could live in the UK for 25 years and she would still be a PR meeting the RO.

Wow. TIL. Maybe I don't need citizenship, then.
