Okay, all... We need some advice... Here's the deal:

There are new forms for Spousal Sponsorship. I've heard rumor that there is not a speed benefit to Outland anymore--both options now take a year to process. This might just be an unfounded rumor... I don't know, but it is very important in our case to know.

When we originally decided to do Outland, the entire processing time for it was showing in reality as only slightly longer than getting a OWP with Inland (4 months). So we decided why not have it take juuust a little longer, and get the whole thing done. Makes sense, right?

If things have changed now and Outland is going to take a year, we are going to need to do Inland--because now we're pregnant, and due on June 16 2017. SO, we really need my husband to be working by then, regardless of how long the entire process will end up taking.

I also wonder if it makes a difference whether you are using the old or new package. Would there still be a speed benefit if we use the old package and do Outland?

I know Americans should really never do Inland, but in our scenario, do you think it's a better option, so my husband can get a OWP in 4 months and have an income? Seriously... I don't particularly want to give birth and then have to go to work at friggin' Tim Horton's the next day.

Please help :-\

Apply in-land - I just sent my husbands app in on Nov 23rd and in 2 weeks got a response that it was received and my sponsorship app was in process,

I also submitted the open work permit app at the same time so in4 months by March he can start job hunting - a may even be sooner as I've seen some get the owp in 3 months! Congrats on the baby!

You might also want to look at the SWAP visa(this gives you an open work permit for 1 year). That's what I'm on right now as my outland sponsorship app is in process(there is no way, I would be able to live with my husband in Canada while this is in process without working). I applied for it and got the work permit in a week and a day. I'm not sure how old your husband is, but I believe the only real restrictions with that visa is that the applicant must be under 35yrs old and a US citizen.

It was honestly a life safer for us! Let me know if you want anymore details :)

Awww... he's too old :( But thanks for that info! I didn't know there was such a thing.

I'm pretty sure we're going to do this inland, now that everything has changed this month. Crazy! :o

it is important to remember while all processing has been equalized to within 12 months, there is NO way anyone can determine whether that means outland visa offices that process apps quicker will all of a sudden take longer to process applications. we won't know if Ottawa will continue to process applications in 4.5-6 months and inland is really processed within 12 months until we actually see how applications are processed through the new system. right now, any suggestions otherwise are only a guess, and not based on actual experience yet.

if you want him to get an owp, then the only option is to apply through "in canada class". again, there's no way to tell how long it's actually going to take until we see applications getting approved. it will be months before we know for sure.
