I got my AIP not too long ago and sent in my police certificate as well. I assume it's in the mail queue, but I called up the Canada Immigration hotline and I got word about the OWP. They've only given me 1 year for my OWP. I asked them about why it's a short time compared to what I've heard from others who have gotten theirs as long as their passport expiration date. She mostly said it was because the officer who is processing my application seems to think my application wont be too much longer anyways, so there is no need to give me THAT long. As you can see in my timeline below, I should be hearing something back soon-ish. (Everyone is different, so who knows.)

But I know my next step is my landing interview. I've seen a few people share their experience with inland landing, but I would like to hear more.

hi i have my Aip in feb 2010..and police certificate and medical on june 2010...coz i was pregnent so done on dec 2010...after that in sep 2011..they ask for history update forum and valid passport as other was expired,..then in october one line add that medical received...its a inland so i hope to received landing interwiew any time i guess...then i ll share my experience..wish me good luck every one..

Congrats!!! You're almost there! I think the landing interview is just to check your documentation, right? I've heard you just go to the interview, they verify your name, etc, and you're done.

I just received AIP this week, so hopefully I'm done soon!! I'm just waiting for my letter to come and read what they'll ask from me (I called the CIC centre and they told me I received AIP and my letter should arrive within 2 weeks).

When people go in for the 'interview' and they're common law, does it make any difference?

Hey CrazyLucy. That is true what they said, the OWP doesn't just go based on your passport expiry but as well if they think it will take a good while to finish or not. This is good news for you.

You have nothing to worry about with the landing interview. Your relationship status doesn't matter as they have already approved of your relationship. The landing interview usually only takes about 10-20 minutes. They will look over your PR card picture to make sure the dimensions are right, get you and your sponsor to look over the documents to make sure the information is correct, they will ask you a few simple questions, you will both have to sign something, they will usually tell you both about your rights and obligations, then you are done. They will then send off for your PR card and you wait for it to come in the mail. Nothing stressful at all.

And some local offices will let you get your permanent SIN that day in the same building. Good luck. Let us know when you get a date. :)

Thank you!

You know, it really reminds me of the time I had to get my passport renewed in the Ottawa American Consulate. I had to go in there (after going through about 4-5 metal detectors) and my grouchy lady had me look over my info, pay the fees and told me my responsibilities of having an american passport, if I have issues in another country then come to my local Consulate ect...ect. Except of course...my common-law partner will be with me.

I got AIP in March2011,and after 9 months wait,i got a letter yesterday for passport and fee request next week,so I will be able to share my experience next week.
