Dear friends,

Both my son and I are going to land soon and we are considering of doing an inland landing here in Calgary. I am unable to find a lot of information on this topic here (inland landing in Calgary). I would appreciate it very much if anyone who had had experience with inland landing in Calgary to share it with me:

1) How long do we wait to get an appointment?
2) How long will the interview be?
3) What documents do we need to bring?
4) Was it a pleasant experience altogether?
5) Any other information/tips that may be helpful.

Thank you in advance! :)

I'm not sure that you can choose which landing office your appointment is in - we just got an email once approved that told us where to go (the closest visa office to us). Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but we didn't get to choose which office we used. The email has all the information you need as far as time, place, and what to bring goes. Basically, you get the email once they have an open space for you. We only had 3 days notice to get to Calgary.

Calgary was a really easy experience for us. The office is in the Harry Hayes building downtown, second floor if I remember correctly. It's easy to get to from the deerfoot hwy/trans canada.

The interview is super short. They basically just verify that the information you provided was correct, and have your sponsor sign a form stating they understand their obligations for sponsoring you. You need to bring along the photos they request and your ID + UCI and file number. We brought my husband's passport, photos, and open work permit along.

You head down a hallway where there's a security guard at the end, tell them you're here for a landing appointment, and they'll point you in the right direction. There's a waiting room with a few interview rooms to the side and some counters at the front. Just walk up, let them know you're there, and they'll call you when they're ready for you. We waited for maybe 5 minutes.

Overall it was a really easy experience and the woman at the desk was extremely friendly and upbeat. I wouldn't be concerned about it at all.

Did you submit an Outland application, even though you are in Canada? If you did, you will receive (or perhaps have already received) the COPR document in the mail. You could simply drive to the nearest land border and `flag pole' to land, or contact the Calgary CIC office to make an appointment.

If you applied Inland...you must wait for CIC to tell you where and when to attend the landing interview.

Hi there,

I applied inland. Thanks for letting me know. I'm in Calgary, so I assumed that I will be able to get appointment here. But like you said, I shall wait for the appointment from CIC.

How was experience? Appreciate it if you can share it with me. Thank you! :)

Hi dominokitty,

Thank you for your helpful reply. Appreciate it! :)

One question: I don't have an open work permit. Will our temporary residence visas be ok? Did they ask you to bring the open work permit, or did you bring it just in case?

Thank you again! :)

your landing interview letter will tell you what you need to bring. generally they ask you to bring any current visa you have, so that is why people bring their owp if they have one. it is not required to have an open work permit. if you don't have an open work permit you aren't going to have any trouble because you don't have one with you.
