I am a New Zealander and I applied for Common Law Sponsorship in Feb 2015 and I am still waiting. I am already in Canada as I had a IEC for a year, then exteneded Visitor Visas till I sent this application in. Now we are in limbo waiting on an answer. There is NO ONE to talk to when you call CIC, its all automated and when you finally talk to someone they cant tell you anything!!! So its a waste of time. The online status check is SO vague I have NO IDEA whats going on.
Is there ANYONE else in this position???? We want to get this rolling so I can get working again and get back to a two income quality of life.

Did you include an OWP with your application?

First of all - it's not surprising you really haven't hear anything. Perfectly normal in fact. First stage approval for inland applications is 16 months. You shouldn't expect to hear anything for another few months yet. At that point you'll receive first stage approval and move on to the second stage of processing. You'll also qualify for an open work permit after first stage approval.

Secondly - because you failed to submit an OWP with your inland application, you are now in Canada without status unfortunately. I'm not sure who told you that you couldn't submit an OWP with your inland application - but that person was wrong.

Anyway - not much you can do at this point but wait.

Oh really. I got that info from someone who used to process Visa's. I tried calling Immigration about it and they kept saying I needed an LMO!!! So I really believed I couldnt work while my application is in. >:(
I see that I can apply for an OWP after 18mths??? Without having to have an LMO??

Being out of status is not good. Technically, if you are caught, you could be ordered to leave Canada.

I'm curious as to why you applied inland. Sydney is one of the fastest VOs. I saw several people through Sydney be done in 3-4 months. The main draw to apply inland is the OWP.

You'll have to wait for AIP before you can apply for a work permit.

Oh :o I applied inland, cause I was still here. I thought thats the only way I could do it. I tried talking to immigration and they didnt help at all! I wish I knew all this before. I'm really worried now. OMG. Um...Will this affect their decision on my application you think?

Thanks again

No - this most likely won't impact the decision.

It just means you'll end up waiting a lot longer to be able to work and have PR than you would have if you had gone outland.

You aren't the only one who has been in this situation due to the lack of clear information on the CIC site. Just sit tight for a few more months. You should be able to work at least by this summer.

We applied march 2015, my work permit was about to expire that time,
we even submitted the OWP application & fees,
but since I lost status my consultant told me that there will be few chances
to approve my OWP.
I do understand your situation it's frustrating.. hopefully we receive some good news
later this year.
