Hello All,

Just a quick question for those in the know - my commonlaw partner and I submitted our application February 12/14; since then we have legally been 'formally' married [August 2014]. I am writing an email now to CIC to reflect this, however a thought occurred - will this possibly delay our application further? They have been working on August 2013 applications for what seems to be almost a year now as it is, and I fear further delaying the processing times for my wife and I. We are expecting our first child end of September and I think another delay in this process would break us financially. Thank you for any insight you may have.

your delay has nothing to do with applying as commonlaw and now being married. the delay has to do with inland processing as a whole. getting married during a commonlaw application will strengthen relationship validity. as long as you qualify as common law at the time of the application, there is no issue getting married after you applied as commonlaw.

Thank you kindly for the reply, it is exactly the information I was looking for, as well as hoping to hear.
