My wife would as of now qualify in jan 2015. But once the new law go into effect next year, my wife can't qualify until july 2017 now under the 4 year/6 year requirement.

They may not have the new rules in effect at that point. It isn't clear how long before the regulations will be revised, though I expect this government will push forward quickly.

I'm also impacted by it, as I'd have been eligible in October. This now means I have to wait until 2017 or 2018. In addition to discounting pre-PR time the definition of "residence" has also changed. The emphasis is now strictly on physical presence. Since my work involves working with clients all over the world, time that I'm away bringing in revenue to the Canadian economy doesn't count.

Canadians may pat themselves on the back for being fair and open and inviting, but the immigration system sure isn't a reflection of those ideals.

In theory you would still qualify in October 2014 as the new rules for citizenship is suppose to go into effect in june 2015. As long as you qualify and submit your citizenship application before June 2015, you would be affected by the new rules.

The information for all local offices is on the CIC website: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/help.asp

In cases where it is unclear, it's best to ask in the forum (e.g., Vancouver has three offices, but only Expo Blvd handles landing appointments). For Etobicoke:

5343 Dundas Street West, 3rd Floor
Toronto, ON
M9B 6K5
Last week my husband went to the Etobicoke office and.... nothing. We are not supposed to go there and they are not supposed to answer to our questions. We have to wait :(
Happy Canada day!

You can always send them a written inquiry. I usually suggest this when someone doesn't hear from the local officer for an extended period of time.

hi everyone. our application in on it's 7th month from the date of issuance of AIP last 10 dec. 2013. As I read on CIC website the 2nd leg of processing for DM takes 8months. Does it mean that on the 8th month we should be receiving a landing notice, or just an info saying that processing has completed? Also just want to know if we need to re-do the medical since it was already expired or we have to wait for the notice from CIC to re-do it?

Landing interview this morning at Calgary.
Same questions done in 15 mins.
Its been a long process but its worth the wait ;)

I got my PR card today! :D I landed on April 11th, so just 7 days shy of a 3 month wait for it.

Congrats rachel85704 on getting your PR card. I don't have you on the timesheet so I couldn't update your status.

Len27: I have updated your status but having trouble getting it updated on Google excel. I will try again at a later time. Congrats on becoming PR of Canada.

Congratulations!! !

It's finally over!

I supposed to received my PR card too after three months' wait... I called them last Friday, after 20 mins of checking..i was told that the PR card was sent to my OLD address from three years ago!!! ( they DO have my new address in file.....) I left current tenant a note... but he said got nothing.....and I was told to wait for 6 weeks..... Delay for no reason AGAIN!!! And... i will miss my trip to the states..

My husband called today to ask if there is anything they can do since it's their fault.. and he was told... the card was sent to my current address......and this guy on the phone was SO SURE that there is no other address on file..

I don't know what to say now.. why so twisted..... :( :( ???

They seem to make so many seemingly avoidable mistakes.... Are you originally from the U.S.? How long is your trip supposed to be? You could take your PR form with you as proof of residency. I mean, hell, I made a trip back to the U.S. for two weeks long before I got PR status and didn't have any issues at all.
