No, your temporary SIN is not void when your work permit is voided. There is no interpretation of law that can overcome the Charter guarantee here:

Thus, Under Charter Section 6(2)(b) you have the right to pursue gaining a livelihood. There are some restrictions to this, but I would find it difficult to believe that any rational decision maker would force the issue in the face of the Charter.

If that is the case, why do people have to wait for their PR card to arrive before they can apply for permanent sin to legally work, when they should be able to apply for permanent SIN with their COPR alone. Doesn't by forcing those applied inland to wait for PR card to be able to legally work contradict the charter according to you?

I just came back from my landing interview. My landing place was Service Canada in Montreal, not in the local office.

My husband (sponsor) was not asked to show his ID. The lady checked undertaking, CSQ and my passport. I also handed out my paper visa (Visitor visa, OWP etc). She didn't give them back to me. I was asked 2 questions and signed my COPR. After 5 minutes waiting, I was called again and another lady gave me a permanent SIN. She kept my temporary SIN card. (Undertaking and CSQ are only for people in Quebec.)

That's it!

Thanks for everything! I learned a lot of things here. I have no words to express my gratitude. :D :-*

But...We called few days ago to call center to ask them for my landing date. The officer told us that he can`t tell us anything....we have to wait the mail from Etobicoke....and he cannot check my case...do I have a date for the interview or no. The processing time is 4 months. If I don`t receive a mail after this period...to call CIC again.
I`m so, so tireeeed of waiting :((((
Congrats who is becoming PR!

Thank you, screech and sunflora!
Sunflora, I hope that your landing is also smooth!

By the way, about the processing times.
Now, CIC says that Step 2 is 11 months. But, in French site, it is still 8 months.

And about my medical exam. I went to the medical exam on 2nd November 2012. After DM, I asked CIC whether I need to redo medical exam. The officer said I didn't need it unless CIC asked it. Luckily, the period of validity was extended. Today I found that it was valid until 20th January 2014. Just info...

Congrats who is becoming PR!

I called CIC today about my landing interview too. I was told it takes from 2 to 6 weeks to schedule an appointment. Within these weeks one shouldn't worry. And they checked my case and assured that mine wasn't scheduled yet. (Hamilton)

Does anyone if ECAS shows when landing letter is been sent out.

ECAS website is not that specific. Calling the CIC may give you info on that.

Congrats Alurra!!! :)

I also got my DM on Nov 27! :)

I have a few questions. They said the center in Etobicoke will contact me. Am I expecting a phone call or a letter? How long does it usually take before they contact you? And THEN, how much longer is it usually until you get to officially land? :)

Fingers crossed for all the others waiting for news. :)

Congratulations, Alurra and RebeccaF!! :D

Usually, the date of the landing interview is announced by a regular letter.
'How long does it usually take before they contact you?'
' how much longer is it usually until you get to officially land?'
Those depend on the local office.

Still no landing letter and its been over three months.
we are only one month away from being two years into this process...we sent the application just after the new year in January 2012.
