Hey guys,

I believe this must be a great news for Oct 2012 applicant waiting for AIP... I just got an email of first stage approval! They are finally issuing AIP! Hopefully more AIPs will be coming in soon.

Just FYI, my documents were received Oct 9, 2012. Screech, it would be great if you could update the spreadsheet to Aug 29, 2013 for my AIP.

Congrats Miminnie on your AIP. I have your status updated on timesheets. Congrats.

Thanks Tomorisu! The OWP approval actually came together with the AIP (I guess this is standard procedure for those who applied upfront?) I'm now just waiting for the hard copy of the OWP! I can now work!

Hopefully it wouldn't be too long before you get your good news too!

Let me know when you get your OWP so I can update it. I am assuming you would be required to show hard copy of OWP before you can work (in order to apply for temporary SIN) , am I correct?

I believe you're right, I will need the hard copy before I can get my SIN... hopefully that will be arriving soon! I will let you know once I get it.

I just got a call from a gentleman at CIC! He asked for a copy of my passport. I am *sure* that it was part of the app. Not sure how he doesn't have it, BUT I asked him, "Does this mean that I'm getting close to AIP, finally?" He said yes. Just sent the fax. He's supposed to contact me to confirm he received it. SOOOOOOOOOO nice to know a human is actually touching my file!!!!!!!!! Fingers crossed so hard that means some movement soon!

He asked if I had a valid passport (yes). Then asked about where I entered Canada. I'd said "Thousand Islands Bridge" on the app. That's not right. It's officially Lansdowne, though all the signs said Thousand Islands. Asked if I could send a copy of my passport, the ID page and the page with the entry stamp. Which I did. And just got a call that the fax was unclear. Hubby's going to send from work in the morning. (We don't have a fax machine, since they're soooo 1890's, and I was using an online service which apparently sucks.)

Passport's good through 2020, so somehow, the copy of my passport is just missing from my file. I guess it's possible I left it out somehow, though it's part of the electronic copy I kept of the app. *shrug* At least there's a human touching my stuff. I'm all tied up in knots.

Hi canadianthrower,

I moved to Edmonton,AB in Feb 2013 and I got insured on my vehicle (Canadian Insurance company) which I got with me to Canada from Texas. I had to provide the insurance company in Alberta with proof of insurance from US. I also provided them with my DMV records and I got a pretty decent deal on insurance from this company. Also, I exchanged my Texas Drivers Lic for Alberta lic. Please note I am on visitors visa awaiting my PR and OWP. You can get your US drivers license exchanged on visitors visa, as long as your visitor visa is valid for 6 months. There are very few registries that understand this rule. Make sure you have your DMV records and proof of insurance from US (even if it has expired since now you live in AB).

If you are in Edmonton, let me know and I can provide you with the name of registry I used for getting my drivers license.

I was able to drive for the 6 months my visitor visa was valid. But now since it has expired, I haven't been able to find one insurance company to take me. My husband's said they won't take me without a valid AB driver's license. I am in Olds. What did you say when you got your AB license to get them to exchange? The DMV I've talked to said they won't exchange until I have my confirmation of first stage.

Also, I have no proof of insurance as I cancelled it when I left the states last October. Also, did you bring your own vehicle from the US and import it? Because I sold my vehicle before leaving the states and we only have my husband's Canadian registered vehicle.
