Your legal status in Canada has changed. Once you are a PR you have most of the rights of citizens, like the right to enter Canada (which for PRs is a right as a matter of law, while for Citizens it is a right guaranteed by the Charter). You have the right to live and work anywhere in Canada. You can't vote, though, and there are some jobs which are restricted to citizens.

Congratulations!

Thanks computergeek! You're right..Though I havent had a chance to exercise my new set of rights as a PR, I probably could feel the change unconsciously at that moment after i signed the paper ;). It definitely was a great relief as well!

Cheers,

Congratulations for your landing!!I wan to ask you as I also have one accompany dependant my son outside Canada. Is you PR confirmation listing the names of your dependants overseas? My PR confirmation has my son's name as accompany dependant, does that means he is permanent Resident too?
They told me the same that the embassy overseas will issue visa for my son when i became PR but I am still waiting. Now I am going in september to pick him up hoping i can bring him to Vancouver with me, but i am confuse about what do I need to request for him in the embassy overseas, is it a PR travel document? Or is it a multiple entry visa to come to Vancouver? We haven't gotten our PR cards yet..and I am not from visa excempt country.
I'll appreciate any help :)
Yes the girls revived PR at the same time, BUT we have to wait for the visa office in Kingston to request their passports and issue their visas, as far as I'm aware we have to apply for their PR cards when the reach Canada. I'm not sure the route you take if you are visa exempt.. anyone else on here have any ideas?

Hello all,

Good news, We finally got email from CPC saying our process of PR application has completed :)

But they also said the landing fee hasnt been paid yet though we did pay it online 2 weeks back, do we hav to inform CIC somehow after paying the fee like sending copy of receipt or something? Any views ?

Just bring your receipt as proof of payment to landing. If possible, you could fax the receipt to your landing office. Speaking of which, where are you landing?

It is likely that since you already paid right to landing fee, when you get the landing appointment letter from CIC ottawa, it won't mention about paying the fee. Usually if the fee is not paid by the time the letter is made, it will inform the applicant that the fee must be paid. Wait until you get landing letter from ottawa to confirm that you acknowledged you paid the fee.

Today would be 70 days since my wife landed. I wonder if she will get her PR card in the mail this week. If we don't get it by next week, we will start calling CIC on a weekly basis until the card arrive.

If I were you, I would start phoning now. I dont want them wasting valuable time waiting for PR card. One was said to call them to find out that there was a glitch in the system and had to get it fixed. So I would start calling.

I had a feeling that I was going to get a response from you the moment I made any mention of PR card, since you haven't informed me of receiving the card yet.

Just a quick question in regards to the PR card

Why are you all being so persistent is trying to get this PR card?

I understand they your family/wives/etc have been granted access into Canada and are now here Legally, so why do you need the card so soon?

Without a PR card, you cannot travel back to Canada without it commerically (airlines/buses/boat) unless you have a Canadian travel document. Which is another hassle to deal with considering the strike that is going on in foreign embassies. So with the strike, I wouldn't trust them to issue the travel document in time for any planned trip back to Canada.

In my case, we have booked a trip for my wife to her home country mid october. We want them to travel before the youngest turn 2, saving ourselves cost of an extra ticket.

So for some, it is important to get PR card for those who have made travel arrangments.

Just because you have landed in Canada, you have all the freedom just yet. You are still stuck in Canada until you get your PR card for flying. Otherwise you would have to go through hassle of filing for travel document right in middle of a strike.

PR cards are not needed for those who have no desire to travel outside Canada other than US by car, even though they will get one in the mail about supposely 70 days after landing.

Still no news from CIC...I called them and a representative said it is possible that I could get some news in two or three months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Crazy

Hi All,

My 6 months is fast approaching come early September. Have any October - onwards applicants ordered their GCMS notes? I am just curious cause I might order my sponsor's to see if there's a hold up and if it's worth it to order them. It probably won't hurt anything to order them.

I will visit my MP soon too in September sometime to see if we can get some progress on our application. Anyone visited their MP's as well?

Let me know!
