RebeccaF,

I only asked because your city of residence was left blank next to your name on timesheet. So I figured why not ask so I can fill in timesheet.

Hey guys!
So, I'm actually a 2013 applicant and my AOR was received May 3rd and with how quickly things are moving and people are getting DM with their AIP, or shortly after, I'm wanting to figure out a way to obtain my UCI.

The AOR email I received only had my wife's UCI in it but on my second visit here, I received a visitor record so I do know that I have a UCI out there. I didn't submit my medical with my application because money was tight around that time and I didn't want to have to pay for it twice (have it expire). I'm wondering if it would make sense for me to call CIC and get my UCI that way so that I can then go get my medical done and it can be submitted so I can hopefully get lucky and get DM pretty close after AIP, if not with.

We all know how calling CIC is so I figured I'd ask opinions of people here beforehand because if I can avoid calling CIC for nothing, I would prefer to.

Thanks!
You mentioned that you have a visitor record. Your UCI is written on your visitor record. Read it over carefully and closely and you will see it. It is under client ID under country of citizenship and above valid date. Mind you this is a physical piece of paper attached to your passport.

If you only gotten a stamp with date of entry only, then it won't show your UCI.

I noticed you have NJ in your nick. I assume you are from NJ. I stayed in NJ for 5 years before moving back to Canada. I stayed in Washington, NJ. About 13 miles east of Easton, PA or 10 miles north of Clinton, NJ.

it's been around the forum. this is not the exact wording... but just the idea:
1) did u commit any crime
2) are u still married to you sponsor
3) have you ever been deported (freak me out when my hubby hesitated on this question. He was just not sure why/what they ask this... he never did any homework and... man! I was more nervous than he was thro the process... )
A quick question about these questions....

When they ask did you commit any crime, do they mean since you have applied? Because you can have an old record and still receive approval if you are found illegible...

So what if you have to say yes you have commited a crime in your liufe, but your Application was still approved?? Anyone with any experience on this?

I think when they ask about commiting crime at landing, they meant since you first came to Canada and submitted your application. Since the police report only accounts for outside Canada.

Can you apply for coverage under your OWP even before you have a job? And if so, coverage begins immediately? I'm also in Manitoba, so this will be good for me to know (in a few months)!

Just out of curiosity, what have you chosen to do? Apply under your OWP or wait until your card arrives?
You are covered under the OWP even without a job, yes. I am applying under my OWP, and then when my PR card comes I'll update my status with them by sending a copy (front and back) of my PR card.

Sorry, I'm just butting in to your conversation with Screech! What do you mean by 'retroactively cover you'? Perhaps a silly questions, but this is all a foreign language to me!
So when I called, the woman I spoke with said that Manitoba Health will cover me starting from 1 month prior to the issue date of my OWP. So I am covered from September 24th, 2013 as my issue date is October 24th, 2013. So should I break my leg right now, even though it will take 3 months from application to receive it, they will reimburse me the cost when the application goes through, including anything that happened within the month prior to the issue date of my OWP.

Apparently the woman I spoke to was drunk, because I just called again and they said definitely not! I will be covered from the date of issue on my OWP. Additionally, I will receive my card and be covered as soon as they process the app (6-8 weeks by snail mail, less by fax or email).

@yvr1234.. Congrats on your landing...

So nervous for landing interview next Monday. I hope I am not going to freeze or be a comedian during the interview.

@screech339, thanks for your previous posts about SIN card. I thought I can bring the COPR to apply for SIN card ( from the CIC- Service Canada) but I google again and found the right information. Thanks

Sounion,

So there is no 3 months residency period wait to get on manitoba health coverage or does this only applies to OWP applicants. Everyone else have to wait 3 months? I thought Alberta was the only province that doesn't require 3 month residency requirement qualification.

I'm not totally sure if just applying under PR status. When I asked how to switch to my PR once the card comes in the mail, they said just to send a copy of my PR card, front and back. They just update it. So for all I know, it could be 3 mo. waiting period if just applying with PR card, but if you apply with OWP first, it's just as soon as they process the app.

I'll call in again today though and ask about with just PR card, in case others are curious.

Okay, just called Manitoba Health. Here's the skoop!

You can apply for Manitoba Health the DAY you become a PR using your landing papers, you don't need the PR card. You can apply at their office or by mail, fax, email. If you apply at their office, you will get a Manitoba Health Card that DAY. You will leave the building with it. If you apply via mail, fax, email. They'll process it and send you the card in the same day. There is NO 3 month waiting period.

So Alberta and Manitoba don't have 3 month residency requirements at all. Good to know.

apparently not. although they said you need to establish residency in MB after getting the health card (live here for 6 months) or else they will cancel your health insurance and send debt collectors after you

Honestly though. How are they going to enforce that? How do they know you have left the province. If you went to the hospital the following day after getting health care and then moved to a difference province. Your manitoba health coverage would still be valid there. Who is to say you MOVE there. You could just have been visiting ontario on a 3 month vacation.
