Hey guys, Glad to see all the positive messages! Congrats to those who are getting to the end of this process.

My husband received another letter for an interview date with CBSA, at the back there is information about PRAA but there wasn't an application included. We are a Dec 2012 applicant and based on the CIC website we should here about AIP by next month as the processing times are showing 11months. My question is, should the PRAA application have been included in the letter they sent or will he be given it at the interview? Also because we have our application in process is it advisable for him to apply to allow us more time to hear back about the AIP? We were already given a deferral due to the application being in process and then it seemed they extended it when the backlog affected the original 6month processing time.

Much appreciated :)
Wow! Sorry to hear that Mimi , from the trend of pple getting AIP in recent u should be hearing something about yours too. I noticed two pple on the list whose application was submitted the same time line as yours got AIP. Did call cic and what exactly does the letter say that if u don't mind me asking?

Hey guys!

I would like your opinion on something. I did not send my medicals with my application, since I didn't want them to expire. Now that my date is getting closer (January 2013), I was wondering if I should send them now or wait until I get my AIP and they request it from me. Also, if you don't mind me asking, how much did those of you in Toronto pay for the Medicals? Thank you in advance! ;D

I don't think there is any harm is getting your medical done again to extend your medical validity period. It is a chance that it may be a waste of money due to possiblity of getting AIP and DM same time and CIC may extend the validity of the medical if they choose to 6 months. As long as you land before your medical expires you are good.

If you do decide to spend the money and do medical again, we went to the mississauga office on 7330 Goreway Dr. Doctor dave lewis. They have an on site x-ray office there too so you can get it all done in one day. The doctor office accept cash, debit or visa. Same does for blood work. However the x-ray test, must be paid by cash only no choice. I had to run across the street to an atm to get cash for x-ray. We paid a little over 200 for the whole thing.

Thank you nairaboy... We are praying we will hear something soon too! No we haven't called CIC yet, will call later today. The letter says to come into the office with documents, and there will be an interview to discuss the removal order. He received this letter earlier this year, we went in May. This time the letter talks about PRAA, which when we went with the agent in May she did say he would be eligible by time the deferral period ended which was in August.

I would apply asap so you can get on health coverage 3 months after your DM letter. Otherwise if you apply after landing, they may not accept DM letter as official date for 3 month wait. They will use the lastest official date possible to make you wait longer. Ontario service was going to use my wife driver licence issue date which was a later date than AIP date. I forced them to use the AIP date using rental agreement with her name on it. They will use any excuse to delay the health coverage qualification date.

CIC has nothing to do with provincal heath care. I think you would have to go to manitoba government website and find links there to applications for manitoba health coverage. Check the qualification requirements to get it to be sure you can use your AIP (DM) letter to qualify. Fill out application, gather your documents and go to the nearest office and apply.

I went to a doctor in Scarborough since I wanted a female doctor. It was $150 for the doctor's appointment, $50 for the x-ray, and $16 for the blood test. So it was a little over $200 for everything - same amount as Screech339's.

Mimi don't worry, if you are offered to apply for PRAA I will say get the forms and apply for it just to be on the safe side. From what I have read one is only eligible for PRAA only after the refugee claim was denied after 1yr. So things work for better, I know it will all work out for sure!

I was in the same position you are in. I didn't send medical or police certificate with my app. A CIC call centre representative advised me NOT to do my medical before CIC requested it. After doing a lot of reading and asking about it on this forum, I decided to take my chances and do the medical.

I caused a lot of confusion at the doc's office, as I was requesting an "up-front" medical after submitting my app. He warned me he couldn't be held responsible if my results weren't correctly matched up with my file, since I was doing it "wrong." I wrote my UCI on the up-front medical exam form.

I was lucky. My results were matched up with my file, and having my medical and police certificate in my file allowed me to get AIP and DM at the same time. Having a complete file is no guarantee of faster processing/immediate DM. However, not having your medical on file is a guarantee you won't get an immediate (or super fast) DM after AIP.
