Yesterday, with my wife being from a non-visa exampt country, she applied for US visa at the toronto US consulate. Her appointment was 11:30am. She went in at 11:15. She didn't come out until 1:20pm. She spent almost the entire time waiting in 5 different line ups, before getting called to counter. Was asked 3 questions. After she answered them, she was told "visa approved" and stamped the application. That was like 1, 2 mins top for interview. The rest of the entire time was waiting in line to be called up.

how long is her visa valid for. Just wondering if they are still issuing 10 year visas to Canadian PR's

@jayshe25
don't worry...in march 2012 i was only looking for ways to move to Canada. For inland it was sth like 12 months (1stage) and 8 months (2stage).
By the time I applied myself stage 1 became 6 months. I was sooo happy and encouraged. But time frames are back to old days of endless waiting game.
What I am trying to say - you never know.

I am so happy to see some movement for october and november applicants. It is frustrating to think my application is in the very very end of December

But what i know now I'm glad I apllied inland. I see those people who apllied outland are waiting for 10 months by now. And they not always get TRV to Canada to spend time together while the process is on.

According to Canada Visa Reciprocity:

Note: Aliens who have "landed immigrant" (permanent residency) or "refugee" (asylee) status in Canada may be accorded Canadian reciprocity per 97 STATE 214113, but only if they apply in Canada and do NOT require an SAO. Such applicants who apply outside of Canada must be accorded the reciprocity of their country of nationality. Such applicants who require SAOs must be accorded the reciprocity of their country of nationality per 06 STATE 80485.

According to above, PRs will get 10 year US tourist visa.

Hi guys!
It's funny that I came back on to this post just as I had finished my US Visitor Visa interview. Anyways, I got approved!
Waited for almost 2 hours for my turn to be interviewed (My appointment was 10:30am, got interviewed around 12:15). The VO talked to me for literally 20 seconds, asking who my sponsor was, (Who was paying for the trip.) So my hubby, when and where we were married and where am I traveling to in the US.He did some typing for another 30 seconds And then he was like that's it your visa is approved. And I dumbly sat there for 5 more seconds, Cause I couldn't believe how quick it was and he was like that is it miss you are done. LOL. Gave me a piece of paper on how I can pick my passport up when it is ready. Thank God!

By the way Screech's information is correct as far as I know, about how long the validity of the Visa is.

BTW, I spent a long time gathering documents to prove my ties in Canada, Bank statements, School acceptance letter, employment letter as well as my hubby's and he didn't even look at it. (Might still be a good idea to be ready tho.)

We only brought her passport, her old passport containing her old US visas and her PR card to the US consulate. Was asked 3 questions. 1. Are you PR? 2. How long are you married? After my wife said 5 years this nov. 3. Why are you applying for US visa just now? (VO probably didn't know my wife was in US since we got married) despite application saying she lived US for 3.5 years. VO probbaly didn't look at the application closely.

Anyway, after my wife answered the 3rd question, VO said "visa approved". That was it. Given paper on how to retrive passport.

Lol. Yes Screech, I meant to say I spent all that time gathering stuff for nothing. I was worried for nothing basically. Not sure if everyone is as lucky as us. So better safe than sorry I guess. Maybe being a Canadian PR definitely helps?

I don't even have my PR card yet, just showed my COPR. Best tip I could give is to not talk too much. lol.

There was this one guy who was probably 5 applicants before me, He probably annoyed the VO and he argued with him. (I think he was denied.) I heard him say (or shout) "you are denying me because I talk too much? I'm sure that is not the only reason but I think it is better to only answer when asked and answer the questions directly. The VO even actually stepped out of his booth to ask the person to leave. Wow, it was kinda dramatic. I thought it would affect the VO's mood but he was the same person who interviewed me and it still worked out.

No offense to your lawyer. Its easy for him to say "its easy sailing from here on out" sitting behind a desk with a job. Without this AIP letter, you can't do anything. It is like you are still stuck on AOR stage. You can't apply for OWP, you can't apply for health coverage and for some you can't even get a driver licence.

Screech339

@ screech I'm just waiting for my OWP!! I've given up
waiting for AIP ! CIC said they will resend
us what ever documents we didn't receive! So.... Let's see what
will be mailed.
One question tho, I was told by CIC that
after I get my OWP I can use that to get tempory
SIN and health card. That's correct right?

What does service ontario use to calculate
the three months residential mark?
The date on the OWP?

I think so. Unless you get your AIP before your OWP. Then you can use the AIP date.

Hi guys,
Still no AIP for me.
I'm thinking its going to be at least another couple of months, as my application was received on Nov 16th and they are currently working on Oct 21st applications.
My questions today is, has anyone applied for the OWP aswell? If so, how long is the wait to receive the OWP once AIP is received?

Cheers
M
