why not everyone apply for OWP ? I don't see how can I do this because I'm not a skilled worker, I don't have a potential employer, and for now I have implied status...

OWP is available to inland sponsorship only. Outland cannot get this perk.
It depends on each applicants. We didn't bother applying for OWP on account why pay 150 when my wife don't plan to work, looking after 2 kids while waiting for PR. No point in wasting the money. So everyone is different. Everyone applied in inaldn aponsorship can apply for OWP but are you willing to pay 150 for it and is it justified? In our case, no.

Those that were on valid regular work visa permit prior to sponsorship will be on "implied work visa status" so no need for them to apply for OWP as their current work permit is valid until PR is done. So they can continue working. Although I don't know post graduate work visa applies here. Once visa expired, that's it.

I didn't apply for an OWP, either. We are in an area of Québec where it is very nearly impossible to find work unless you are fluent in French. I will not be fluent in French for quite some time yet, so even with an OWP, I wouldn't be able to find work.

Yes. It is all a matter of whether it is justified or not. Even though everyone can apply for OWP, it is a matter of how each applicants can use OWP. No point in wasting 150 for OWP if you can't find a job unless you are french fluent in your case, or in my case, can't work while looking after 2 kids at home while waiting for PR. OWP is good any any inland applicants that can actually use it.

I am trying to figure out if in my case I can apply for owp ...
Like I said , I'm not a skilled worker, I don't have a potential employer, and for now I have implied status (my visitor status expired and I applied for extension).
and I don't know if it worth it .... because if the time between AIM and DM is almost the same as the processing time for wop.....then is not worth it.
I really don't know what to do...(God...I'm sick and tired of this...)
Maybe I will send them an email and ask an opinion.

It doesn't matter if you are a skilled worker or not, or you have a potential employer or not. You would be able to apply for any job as everyone else with your OWP. There are cases where an applicant has received an AIP/OWP same time only to get a DM status a month or 2 later. Then the money is wasted. Not justified but you can't always expect to get a DM a month or two after AIP. Average 2nd stage is 8 months. So you could be sitting on your ass for 8 months or longer. So it is a bit of a gamble. It was easy for us to decided not to get OWP when you have 2 kids to look after. If we didn't have any kids to look after, I would have had applied for OWP regardless so that my wife can have option to look for work while waiting for PR.

One way to look at it from money point of view. OWP cost 150. A visitor visa extension cost 75. If we applied for OWP instead of visitor visa extension, we really spent 75 more and for 75 more, my wife can work comparing to spending 75 for visa extension. Either way we took we would be spending 75 for extension. For another 75 more my wife can work. Since you already applied for visitor extension, you spent 75. Now if you apply for OWP, you're spending another 150 on top of the 75 already spent on visitor extension totally 225.

Fingers crossed, looks like I might get into a full-time French program on base. (Since it's through the military, it's not like regular schooling; they don't care about my status, just that I'm married to a service member.) I have a placement test tomorrow. I can get bumped if there are more military members who need the course; they get priority. But I'm hopeful! I'll feel like a real grown up again, if I have to wake up and shower and leave the house every weekday, haha.

I could use some good news. The wait wears on me, and yesterday, my husband was told that I'm NOT covered under his insurance, since I'm not yet eligible for provincial insurance. This is news to us, as we've been paying for my inclusion on his insurance for over a year, since I was covered when we were in the U.S., AND since Sunlife paid a $400 claim we submitted to them. Ah, the military! Possibly even less consistent and informative than CIC!

I was told by another that CIC opened a new processing centre in Vancouver to handle the backlogs. So it could be that your file is being sent there for them to process and catch up on the backlogs.

Yes, your situation is, I got to say, preplexing to me. Makes more sense that the file gets transferred before AIP, usually for possible interview for relationship verfications or the like. Or in nairaboy, could be sent there for backlog processing for them to catch up. I am sure the additional processing centre in Vancouver is probably a temporary measure. Once the backlogs are removed or reduced to 6 months for 1st stage, they will likely close the CIC backlog processing centre to save money.

The backlog reduction office in Vancouver was opened since April 2011. CIC will always have backlog. Btw the new minister seems clueless too because I've not heard a thing from him since he was sworn in

I am mistaken as I thought it was something they did recently like within the last 12 months. As for the new minister, I am sure he is keeping in touch with Kenney to make sure that any new policies he came up with, will be met with Kenney's approval or at least won't interfere with Kenney's new role, no conflicting policies or loopholes between the two.

it seem like it's only me now who has this long timeline for inland 2012 applicants but haven't receive any update since my file was transfer to cic etobicoke? i am sponsoring my husband and it feels like it's really a long wait. i did tried calling the call center last june 24 and they said that cic etobicoke send them a message saying need a little time. what may be the reason why it's taking this long just for the initial assessment for the sponsor qualification? what are the cases that sponsor might not be approve? i am presently employed never on a welfare. i am still thinking positive with all this things.
