Personally, I don't see it doing much good. Once my husband gets home in a couple of weeks, I may see if he'll write a letter to our MP (our MP's preferred language is listed as french, and I'm not bilingual; I think the letter may be better received in his first language, as we're in a pretty separatist part of Northern Quebec). But again, I don't hold out much hope. I think there was already a bit of a slow down, and now there's the strike to add to it.
Any downsides to writing this letter? Maybe you get an informative answer and it will alleviate some stress knowing things are beyond your control, or any other information at all that people might find helpful. I think there are no downsides, but only upsides to asking.

I emailed a letter to my MP 2 weeks ago, I have yet to receive a reply.

Call their office and make an appointment, they work for you or your spouse, so they should accessible to anyone. It might take some effort to get in touch, but they should be helpful after all, you keep them employed and they work for you.

Well, there's the downside of pestering my sweet but rather lazy and totally administratively retarded husband until he writes the letter, haha! He *is* fluently bilingual, but he hates writing in french, partly because we have english keyboards, and the alt codes for accents get old. And I struggle with anxiety some, especially since I left the U.S. Waiting to hear back from the MP will raise my anxiety some (I try not to get my hopes up for anything, with immigration or with this military life stuff, because hope leads to anxiety and sometimes depression). And then I'll be even more depressed if he can't help at all. Not really huge downsides, but enough that I haven't bothered to bug the husband yet.

Ah I see, I am from the States too, hang in there! Can your family visit you? Do you have any pets or anything? Get something to take your mind off things, dogs help! I am sure you must be covered under your husband's medical / insurance and so forth. Look into getting some anti-anxiety medication prescribed.

WOOHOO for landing date! Nice to see progress!

As for insurance, I'm very lucky in that my husband is military, so I'm covered by his insurance and not uninsured until I qualify for provincial insurance. (Doesn't mean it's easy...NO ONE up here knows what to do about me. Took us four months of trying to file a claim to reach the right agency and department for an ER visit I had. But still, we're lucky.) As for meds, I'll seek them out if things get desperate, but I've had them before, and I don't like the way meds make me feel. It's only very rarely that I have a full-blown anxiety attack. Usually I just find myself sitting around with my stomach kind of climbing into my chest cavity, haha. It's better when he's home. Less than two weeks! No pets (husband is allergic to everything with fur), and no, my family hasn't made it up yet, though my sis is trying to work her schedule around to visit in the next few months. That will be nice, to have her within hugging distance again. Most of my friends from the US are too broke to come up. Airfare is high!

Havent been on this forum for a while. I've just read about the strike and it worries me...i'm still waiting on my DM but it seems to take a while longer for that. Kinda frustrating indeed. Sigh.

MP,

If you leave Canada while inland process is in play, you will likely void your application especially if you intend to work in ireland. If you want to work in ireland while waiting to immigrate to Canada, your best bet is to cancel your inland application and reappy outland in ireland.

if you applied inland, you are free to leave the country, but they don't have to let you back in, even with implied status. if they turn you back at the border, they throw your application out and you would have to start all over. so would void the whole process, not just the owp.
