Well guys, I am sorry for the lack of chart updates. I am so bad for this and I feel horrible. I have so many congrats and welcomes to send out but they may get to you late. I have been very busy lately between doctor visits, spending time with hubby before his sick leave is up, trying to get a ride out to get my SIN, and hanging out with a friend before he leaves for the mainland. Its been hectic and most of the time my sleeping pattern is out of whack.

I just wanted to update and say that a job literally plopped into my lap yesterday. A friend came with his new boss as training and presentation to hubby and I but by the end of it, I basically had myself a job. All I need is to give them my SIN when I get it and I can start training. And I pay for a course to be trained at college then can get it reimbursed later. Basically you are your own boss for this and can work any time you want for as many hours as you like. I still need to look up about the company and how I feel about it but I figure why not. I mean I didn't even need to send in a resume, he just liked the drive he saw in me. This is a financial consultation job and I will get licensed in it. And a few years from now I could be making 50-75,000 dollars a year myself which would be awesome but that depends how hard I work, which for that, I would work really hard. So I have the weekend to look over it and see if I like it. I just figure I might as well not be too picky for my first job because work experience is work experience. So what do you all think? And how are all of you?

I am so happy for all the great news but I am wondering why they decided to randomly stop giving people both AIP and PR stage together. Hmm...with CIC I will never know. Lol. ;)

What does an Approval in Principle letter say. Does it specifically say that you have been approved in principal for stage-1? I and my wife recently got a letter from CIC but no where it says Approval in Principal.

The letter I got from CIC says:

"This refers to the Application to sponsor a member of the Spouse or Comon-Law Partner in Canada Class you submitted to this office on behalf of ----(my wife's name).
You have met the requirements for eligibility as a sponsor. The Application for Permanent Residence will be processed separately and the applicant will hear from this office shortly."

The letter my wife got from CIC says:

"This letter refers to your application for permanent residence under the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class.
It has been determined that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent resident status as a member of the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class. However, a final decision will not be made until all remaining requirements for becoming a permanent resident have been met. These requirements include medical, security and background checks for you and. if applicable. all of your family members. both in Canada and abroad. e\'en if they are not applying to join you in Canada at this time. You cannot become a permanent resident until you and all your family members have met these requirements."

Is this an AIP?

Can I take this letter to Service Ontario to apply for OHIP Card or to MTO office for driver license?
Sir, read the letter carefully, is it all the letter says? Probably not. After the sentences you wrote the letter should say that your wife is not eligible to apply for the Open Work-Permit or Study Permit and also, depending on the province, for Health Card. Are you guys applying inland and your wife and son are in Canada?

Hi LY,
I understand how you want to get a job so bad after being unemployed for a while due to your status in Canada, however, I'd suggest you to think twice about this job opportunity. It sounds like it is one of those pyramid schemes companies (World Financial Group, Primerica, Investor Group, etc..) Your friend and the boss recruit people like us who are new immigrants that are eager to find a job, they gave you awesome presentations and made you think you can be your own boss, but in reality you are still working for "them" and everything is not as good as it sounds. Do some research online before you make the decision, of course your friends are going to deny any negative comments/concerns you see online, or even more aggressive criticize people who were trapped into "their" world" for a few months then quit because those people saw the real side of the company. I know this because sooooooo many people I know have been there (a friend tried to recruit me too!!) and got out within 1 year.

Here is the complete letter that my wife have received:

"This letter refers to your application for permanent residence under the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class.
It has been determined that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent resident status as a member of the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class. However, a final decision will not be made until all remaining requirements for becoming a permanent resident have been met. These requirements include medical, security and background checks for you and. if applicable. all of your family members. both in Canada and abroad. e\'en if they are not applying to join you in Canada at this time. You cannot become a permanent resident until you and all your family members have met these requirements.

It has also been determined that your family members in Canada included in your application meet the eligibility requirements, namely:
Son's Name and Date of Birth

You may now apply for an open work permit, which will allow you to work in the occupation and location of your choice. You may also apply for a study permit. If applying for a study permit please ensure you include a letter from the educational institution you plan to attend. The letter should outline the type of course or program for which you are registered, the start date and the expected completion date. To obtain the correct forms please visit the Citizenship and Immigration Canada Internet web site at [http://www.cic.gc.ca] or contact the Immigration Call Centre at the number indicated below.

Passports for yourself and your family members must be valid for the duration of your stay in Canada.

The client number in the top right-hand corner of this letter is your personal identification number; it lets people see and use information about you that is on your immigration file. To protect yourself, you should not let anyone else use it. When you send a letter or fax to us, please include your personal identification number.

If you change your address, please tell us immediately by calling the Citizenship and Immigration Canada Call Centre at 1-888-242-2100, or on the internet at http://www.cic.gc.ca. You can also get general information and application kits from the Call Centre or on the internet. If you require further assistance, please phone the Call Centre and be ready to give your client number and your date of birth.
Officer DUD Case Processing Centre Vegreville, Alberta"

I am sponsoring them on InLand immigration application as they are living with me in Canada. What do you guys says ....can we apply for SIN, medical card and driver license? Any thoughts?

Thanks

Thanks pptk703, I already felt like something was up and did my own research all last night so don't worry. ;) Thanks for looking out for my best interest and that is why I wrote here. And by the way, it was one of those companies (sadly). I didn't know whether to believe my gut and not feel safe with it (because I didn't) or maybe I was just trying to block myself from an opportunity. Everything you described about it, I had wondered but glad you could reassure me. It just felt wrong. Seemed like they would take ANYONE especially those off the street. And why should I have to pay money or give them contacts for 5 friends. Thats not right. And it reminded me of back home with the Army trying to recruit me before. Very uncomfortable. Not to mention I took Business, Marketing, and Entrepreneurship classes at home and obviously come from the US so I feel I know how the financial system works there. And you guys know I am a researcher and leave no stone unturned. As much as I hate that this happened I am glad it did so that I could warn everyone about it on here. Please guys don't fall for these things. If it doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. And that is how it felt for me. Glad I actually asked though to find out. Just the sign I was asking for from God. Thanks.

If you did not apply for an open work permit with your application, you will need to apply for and receive that before you can apply for SIN. Not sure about medical card or driver's license, hopefully someone else has that answer. I also don't know if the answer regarding health care /license changes based on which province you are in.

Anyone?

Are you sure TL that they just take their AIP letter? I don't think that is enough. They need to have work permit (not sure about study). If you don't have already, you need to apply for one. Takes about a month to get then you take that to Service Canada and you can get the SIN. The health care card and driver's license depend on the province you live in and their rules.

Yes, sir, that is the Approved in Principle letter. You can apply for:

Health Insurance Card
Work Permit
Student Permit

and driver license.

Applying for Work-Permit and Health Card will take three months so do it as fast as you can.

You are right LY, i must have been really tired writing that. You need a work permit to get a SIN, but it is an AIP letter for sure.

Haha don't worry about it. I was thinking I had it wrong all along.

A driving licence has nothing to do with PR.

I sat the G test a few weeks after I got here, as a visitor.

I was given the choice of sitting the G2 or G because of my driving history (full Irish licence since '95)
Depending on your nationality, you may be given credit for your history, and some countries allow you to make a straight exchange.

An international drivers licence is only valid for 90 days (its designed for holiday/business trip use)

This info is for ONTARIO

Big NO. Yes, I think you will have problems re-entering. Study permits, work permits, are not travel documents and state on them that they do not authorize re-entry. The visa, which they stick in the passport is what she needs. She might be able to get one with a work permit. I plan on finding out if I can get one with my study permit, so I can travel in December if I don't have 2nd stage. Not sure btw, I would call cic and find out :-\

Don't do it!!! Inland apps say you cannot leave the country....or you may be refused re-entry. If this is who I think it is, you guys will probably be done before then anyways (my co-worker??). You can take a Canadian vacation no problem, but re-entry is not guaranteed.

BTW Congrats on the OWP!! That's great news!

Roughly how long does it take to get the AIP letter after the update is E-Cas?
