So, I just got my letter (dated Jan. 7) for my permanent residence interview. My interview is scheduled for Jan. 19. Do you guys have any tips? What should I expect? Will they ask my husband and me a lot of questions?
Just wasn't sure what I should expect. That's potentially good news for you inlanders! I'm being processed at the Vancouver office, I got my AIP on Dec. 21 and my interview is Jan. 19. So it looks like it shouldn't be an additional 9 months for full PR after all.
Thanks for your help my lovelies!
@lpeacock: Thats amazing news - hopefully I will hear in the next couple of days as well, as I am also in Vancouver. My AIP was Dec 23, so hopefully I will get a letter next week :D

Have a good weekend everyone!

As if I wasn't already reminded how much I need AIP and how it feels like we will never save up money for our own place (which we are fussed at about usually) now Aliant decides to raise up our bill by $20. May not seem that much but when you are already broke, having to pay other bills, and get your own place, it adds up. That is about an extra $100 we will lose out on that we could have used to move out. Not to mention they only raised it up that much in the past two months. Last month it went up by $10 and this month another $10. Is it going to raise up $10 every month? Same thing Rogers was doing to us last year and reason we switched. Does it ever stop? A raise in bills was seriously not what I needed right now if you know what I mean.

End of rant. Sorry I just really needed to vent. Ahh...feel much better now. :)

On a lighter/funnier side of things. I was on my iPod today and downloaded an app that can find any Wifi hotspot from businesses in the world. After looking around my local area, I thought I would look around the globe. I said to my hubby, "Oh love I should look to see where our application is located at." All was normal until I zoomed out a bit and found the funniest thing. I didn't edit anything about the picture. This was taken as a screencap from my iPod just so you all know that I am not making the name of this city up.

CAN YOU SPOT THE HUMOR (COINCIDENCE) IN THIS PICTURE? *Hint look below Vegreville* Maybe that is how they chose the office for CIC.

I know right? Seriously the irony in it is too funny. I mean I had to share it. I was hoping someone else would find it funny too.

Love_young,

we also moved from the US recently last March and find things in Canada priced ridiculously high !!! But I feel Canada has its own advantages when compared to US in certain others...

That is very true. I mean every country has its good qualities and bad qualities. And I love my home and all but I do think for my future kids sake, this is where I would prefer to raise them. A country where other countries don't hate you, where everyone is nice, where you can get good medical help, good education, safe communities, etc. This is where I prefer to live the rest of life with my hubby. I mean like I said there isn't anything really wrong with the US because it is my home and always will be but it does have its down sides and especially lately, many of them.

Yay you go girl! You're making a lot of progress. Did you send it in the mail? You get them back faster that way then applying online or so I hear.

Yes we ended up sending it in the mail. At first we planned on doing it online..but because my husband was out of status it would not allow him to proceed that way.

So what we learnt was: If you are out of status and just got AIP, in order to apply for a work permit, you must paper file.

Now we wait :)

Very good and useful advice Janadian. :)
And really? I didn't know your husband was out of status. Glad he will be back in it soon though.
Was he ever nervous during the wait? If you don't want to answer that, I understand. Best of luck to both of you. Sounds like you are making lots of progress.

Yes he was very nervous. He came here on a work permit but it could not be renewed. So when we sent our application for PR he was only here on "implied status"

I also learnt that applications for OWP are taking:
27 days paper file
50 days Online applications

Yeah the reason I asked if you sent it by mail is because it is a lot faster.
But being on "implied status" does make you out of status. Being out of status means not legal status at all. Implied is legal.
That is what I am on right now while waiting for AIP and for them to issue a work permit to me.

I have noticed many people I have talked to from inlanders do not really know what keeps you in status, is legal status, or what happens to it if you don't send an extension or OWP. I am assuming he was out of status because you didn't file for an extension or submit OWP with the PR app. You are not on "implied status" if you didn't submit one of those with the app. The reason I am is because I submitted an OWP with my PR app and it was received BEFORE my status expired on July 31. Since they received it before then and my status expired during the wait and since I already applied for another status document and am waiting approval, that gives me implied legal status. I just don't want new people eyeing our thread and learning the process to think they are on legal implied status during the wait just because they submit an inland application. In order to receive that implied status you have to submit an OWP with the PR app before your current status expires.

Phew...okay take a deep breath. Lol.
