Inland application question - timeline?

Hi everyone... I've tried looking this up, but haven't been able to find an answer, so hopefully someone can enlighten me.

For inland applications, how long (approximately) will it take before we hear anything from CIC? We sent the application in the first week of November, and haven't heard anything, or been able to access any info on the CIC website. How do we know if they got it, are processing it, etc? And how do you deal with the waiting? It's driving me crazy and it's only been a couple of months...

Also, as a result of some confusion, we didn't send the application for an open work permit with the application for PR... does anyone know if we can send it in close to the approximate date of first stage approval, still with the request "Do not process until first stage approval"? Or will we now have to wait until we get approved?

Thanks so much for your answers!

1. 8-9 months for either first level approval/refusal.
2. You should have sent it to Vegreville recorded delivery.
3. You will have to wait for approval refusal or until you have a file no. to send it to.

Hey Amanda the inland wait is quite a long one. They will be around 9 months until you hear about 1st stage approval. If you recieved a signature when you couriered your application that is the only way you know it has arrived. You may be able to check on ECAS on the CIC website within about 4 months of the submission.

As for not sending the open work permit, we didnt know about this as well. We attempted to do it after the fact with a letter of explanation and everything but they sent us back a refusal as they processed it right away. Once you get 1st stage approval it doesn't take to long to apply for the work permit under 30 days processing times, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Thanks PMM...

We did send it registered mail to Vegreville, I guess it is just me second-guessing everything that made me worry and think "What if..."
I hadn't realized that we wouldn't hear anything until we got the approval/refusal... I had just assumed we would get something saying it was in process (I think I was getting confused by all the outland posts)... at least now I know not to worry if we don't hear anything for a while!

Thanks for clearing that up for me! It may not increase my patience, but at least I'm not worrying that I've done something wrong! :D

And thanks for the info about the OWP, kelKel... it is a long wait inland, but it's still shorter than the 18 months it takes through the Singapore office! And we get to be together, and have loads of support from my family. I didn't realize it was so quick to get the OWP... I had just figured since everything else takes so long, it probably would too! :D

Also keep in mind what province you are applying from. If it is Quebec, you are at a disadvantage as you need to wait for a ltter from Vegreville asking you to contct MICC. This letter should be sent to you at the very least 6 weeks prior to AIP, but very often is not. Because of this, your AIP date will come and go and you will still be waiting to do your process to get started for Quebec. This can create additional delays.
