Hi,

My husband is a PR here in Canada. His father recently passed away in the UK and he has been left a watch. His family would like to post it to him (and insure it, of course), but we would like to know whether or not we will have to pay taxes/duties on it?
My mom sent me a family heirloom whilst we lived in the UK and I ended up having to pay around $200 in order to pick it up from the post office there. We would like to avoid the same thing!

Thanks for your help!

Kate

Be prepared to provide a copy of the will/executors instructions to show the watch is inherited.

This is the advice I received from CBSA when "importing" items left to me by my grandmother.

If it's just a watch (& not a multi-million dollar limited/first edition) it would probably come through customs quite safely as a gift.

Thank you for your quick reply! Really helpful!
