April Visitor Visa has not updated

Hey all,

So, we applied for my boyfriend’s visitor visa on April 4th. He is from Colombia, so we understood the chances are lower, but we put together what we felt was strong and we were confident. We did our best to prove everything and we hoped for the best but had realistic expectations as well.


So, April 21st, he did his biometrics. That was updated.

And now radio silence.


Even the tracker that is supposed to give an estimated date has not been adjusted.


And now, we should have applied earlier for his mid-June visit. We planned to apply in February, but I was dealing with a lot. A death in my family. So, my mindset was gone.

In mid-Marchish we put everything together.


However, the processing time showed about 32 days or so for Colombia, so we had hopes but understood we maybe have cut it close.


Anyways, I am asking today if his travel dates we stated have passed. It was for a potential June 21st date for 2 weeks to my city. His vacation is finished so he wouldn’t be coming this year now.


What do we do with his visitor visa?

Is there still a chance they would approve of it even though his travel dates have passed?

Do we just wait for an answer now?


We of course would like to order the notes if it is denied. Just to know how to adjust so if we decide to apply again for his vacation next year. We will apply a lot earlier. But that is why I am kind of wishing they would just give an answer haha I know that what I wish is different than reality.

I just want to give us time to strengthen things as needed.

Wait for processing. Impossible to say whether planned travel dates will be considered. He is going through a manual review which is why it is taking so long. Given his profile that is not surprising. Posted processing times are not guaranteed and often not realistic. If denied order GCMS notes so you can work on addressing concerns when you reapply next year.

I figured as much but wanted to just ask! Thank you for your time. We figured the posted processing times would not be guaranteed but due to the challenges this year brought, I was not able to help put things together earlier with him. So we took a chance applying when we did. I just got a little confused what would happen not that the travel dates have passed.

I have seen people that reapply within weeks of the denial but have heard people say to wait a few months then reapply once the concerns are strengthened and some time passed.

Okay, thank you for the advice! yes, I hope in the next couple of months we get an answer then we can plan accordingly for next year.

Sorry, pinch me! But here is an update!

Today they sent the Biometric Validity Letter and it stated: Final decision - September 17, 2025: Your application is in progress. We will send you a message once the final decision has been made.

I thought it was weird they sent it months later.

Then within about 30 minutes, we received the 'Original Passport Request':
This is in reference to your application for temporary residence. A decision has been made on your application. We require your passport to finalize processing your application.
Passport requirements
• Please provide your passport or travel document, with a copy of this letter.
• There must be at least one blank page in your passport.
• Your passport must be valid for the duration of your expected length of stay in Canada.
• Please note that we cannot issue a visa beyond the expiry date on the passport.

Nothing else has updated on the portal. It is saying 'we are processing your background check' or 'we are reviewing whether you meet the eligibility requirements'

So, with that not being updated, I am little worried to get ahead of myself and excited.

But if they requested the letter, I have seen this is usually a very positive sign.
Is that correct??
If you need to burst my bubble please do so but is this positive?!?!

AND if its positive I am just worried because we passed his desired dates of travel. So usually will they state when he can travel and for how long? Like would they say he needs to travel within this year?

i tried to update this but my previous profile was saying approval was needed. So I made a new account to see if that’s a new things in this forum but seems it is not! Sorry for this.

But I have a question and update!

This afternoon I felt I was dreaming!

I guess I won’t fully believe it until we get the stamp! I mean we put together a what I felt was a strong application as best as we could and genuine and true. But I guess since he is coming from Colombia with no travel history, no property, I was expecting it more or less to be rejected.
And we were passed his desired travel dates. He still can’t come until next year now but still, we are processing all the emotions of excitement!

Is it usual they will give a multi year until his passport expires? Or could just be a single entry?
