Information required for Student Visa with Spouse + Minor

Hi Everyone,

My wife has done Bsc (Hons) in Food Sciences in year 2009. She wants to pursue her master’s degree in Canada as it best suites us. She is planning to apply in Master’s degree in Mcgill University. I need clearing up myself on few queries before we put forward application for Study Visa.

1) I have gone through some discussions in same forum, there are likely chances if spouse + minors apply with principle application for student visa. To clarify my financial position, I can arrange bank statement of around $ 70000. What are chances to get study visa?

2) Can I apply for WP on Spouse Visa? My qualification is MS (Telecom & Networks) and have six years of field experience.

3) We have kid aged 3 years. Regarding schooling for our child… Shall he require study visa independently for pre-school admission? Is pre-school education free in Canada for our case?

Please advise .

If you make joint application its very likely you might get refusal they will smell you using student way for immigration. Its better she should make single spp application later on you can join as a dependent.

Its better that you apply separately that's what i am doing, in my case im the student and my husband will be the dependent and we have been advised that after my visa comes my husband should apply under OPEN WORK PERMIT(OWP) and thats what we are doing.. for this you need to show few funds i.e the living expenses and you need to prove that after your wife completes her studies you will come back( even if thats not the case ) so for that show some propertly etc..
Regarding your son, he can accompany your wife as dependent and she can state the reason that he s too young to be alone back home and for him i guess you need to show some extra funds while filing your wifes visa..

no your kid doesn't require a separate student visa.. n moreover as you have mentioned he is 3 years old, as per the Canadian system of education the age for pre school is 4 years plus so you don't need to worry and even if that wasn't the case he doesn't require a visa separately...

From where will your wife be applying and for which intake and which college/uni?

From Pakistan. She has applied in Mcgill University in Jan 15 Intake.

i have applied under spp Centennial college , advanced bio technology. i am a b.pharmacy graduate with almost 4 years of work experience ..

1. Dependent will get TRV on their own merits, not yours. You need CAD 10000 (yourself) + CAD 4000 (1st dependent) + CAD 3000 (2nd dependent).
2. You can apply for an Open Work Permit.
3. Pre-school only: No study permit required (if you have a valid study/work permit). Tuition is free, but contact school/district.

Sorry to use your thread, but now I am confused.. Previously, I asked in another thread how to apply for my SP and my wife’s OWP (together vs separately), and I was advised that it did not really matter .. but both said it is better to apply to SP first and then OWP.

My status: currently in Canada on TWP and wife on TRV.
