How long from the time you sent in your application, did it take until your application got transferred?
My application was received by the Edomonton office in April 2023 and they start working on it same time and they tansfferered it in February 2024
Do you have any idea how long now Etobicoke will take to process it plz ?

Honestly, no one has exact timelines, but for most people here, it might take 1.5-2 years. My sister got her TRP after 3 months(Domestic Violence reasons) last year, and i applied for mine on March 8th, and i am still waiting for a response. Dont give up hope, and dont leave the country, my immigration lawyer said it was the worst thing anyone could do (because i was thinking about it), its significantly harder to ever come back.

Hello,

I applied for TRP with Study permit extension on November 20, 2023. My Study permit expired on December 15, 2023. However, I am on Implied status and completed my studies on April 2024. But still my TRP and Study permit extension hasn’t been approved yet. So, Can I apply for PGWP? If so, should I restore my status as a student, as I don’t have a valid study permit? Any idea, How long IRCC takes to process TRP applications?

Applying for restoration doesn't make sense.

Is there a reason why you applied for a TRP? That is unusual.

I guess you can try applying for the PGWP and see what happens.

Hi,

Thanks for replying. I came to Canada in December 2022 for doing my Masters. I lost my Passport on my way to Canada. So the Immigration Officer at the Airport issued me a TRP and a Study visa for 1 year cuz I don’t have a passport at the time of entry. My course is till April 2024. So I had to apply for an extension of my Study permit as well as TRP which are set to expired on December 2023. So I applied for an extension and remained on Implied status. Now I am done with my studies. And Im looking to apply for PGWP. So should I wait for my Study permit extension as well as TRP to get approved or Can I apply for PGWP?

This is an extremely unique and unusual situation. I would recommend you speak with an immigration lawyer.

Can anyone offer some advice on my current situation?

Became inadmissible to Canada in early 2020 while physically present in the country. Left immediately (of my own accord - no instruction to leave or deportation).

Applied for TRP to London VO in December 2021. Gave Biometrics March 2022, and then just waited.

In September 2023 i married my Canadian husband in the US, and was given a TRP for 4 months at the border. Went back to the border Jan 2024 and was given a second TRP for 4 months (Expiry May 2024) and was told i would not be given another and i had to apply for a subsequent TRP on paper, so that is what i did. Submitted and receieved by IRCC in April 2024, before the expiry of my TRP, I have the confirmed delivery by Canada post Tracking.

So i have 2 applications in currently (One in London, One in Canada), and i did not leave Canada as subsequent TRP applications can be made with no break in continuity as long as it is receieved prior to the previous TRP expiry, which mine was, but until i receieve AOR,my status is obviously in question.

My question - I have just received Biometrics validity letter for the London Application. I expect that application will get an answer soon one way or the other. What on earth do i do if its approved? How do i activate it? I cant leave and come back (flagpoling or a border run) can i? because im technically out of status.

Im not sure what to do here.

It's a unique situation and you may need to ask a lawyer. TRPs are not common and your situation is especially unique.

I wanted to withdraw the London application but i was convinced not to by everyone i spoke with including a lawyer. They said there was no point as it had been processing for so long and id paid and done everything, i may as well leave it. The decision to stay and apply for a subsequent permit was not in the plan, i only did it because my husband is having health issues which are as of right now, still unexplained and resulting in several emergency hospital visits.

So im now stuck... I dont think there is a good answer here. If i leave to activate the TRP (if its approved), i could be refused entry because until i receive AOR, it looks like i just overstayed.. so leaving at my own risk and i think thats what a lawyer will tell me.

Unique is the word :( I feel like i made a huge mess of this. The timing could not be worse. I wonder if there is any way to 'activate' it from inside Canada, i do not think so.. but i will explore that avenue. Im just processing my situation 'out loud' here. I dont think there is a good, obvious answer but maybe sharing my situation could help others in the future, even if its just to avoid it. I dont recommend multiple applications, regardless of what anyone says.

I don't have further advice to provide. This is beyond my level of knowledge. Good luck.

I spoke to th CBSA on the phone and I they confirmed I would have no issue at the border so I went this morning and activated my TRP by flagpoling. Went fine, have 2 year multi-entry TRP in hand now.

The only issue happened when I tried to apply for a work permit at the same time. The border officer said I couldn't get a work permit without a LMIA which is just.. untrue. He started getting really angry with me and asking me which stream was it I was applying through that gave me a work permit and what was the exemption code for the work permit, and reminding me how lucky I am to even be in the country in the first place... He was getting to angry so I just left it as I was getting quite upset but I have a job offer that won't wait 3 months for an online application. I am planning to go back to a different border during flagpoling hours on Monday and asking again.

Just in case I get a similar response, do you know what I should say? Is there a specific exemption code or something I need to be specific about?
