:)Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice.
I am currently at university in England to obtain a degree in primary school teaching. My husband is a time served joiner with 25 years experience . I am 32, my husband is 42 we have 3 children. We have always wanted to live in Canada and have decided that when my degree is finished that is what we will do. Do you think we will be eligible for express entry. After our house sale we should have around 250,000 cad to bring with us.

LOL, I have no idea what a "time served joiner" is! Your eligibility all hinges on your/your husband's work experience. You would have to see if you meet the minimum of 67 pts under the Federal Skilled Workers program, as well as the criteria for express entry. Which ever of you have the most skilled work experience should be the Principal Applicant.

You need to identify the NOC Code for all your primary occupations as well as work experience. Use the CIC tool to determine your eligibility.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/eligibility.asp

If you determine that you are eligible, it will take time to gather all the documentation you need to apply. For the FSW program, the PA needs letters of employment for all skilled work in the past 10 years. And I realize that your first language is English, but one or both of you will need to take an exam to prove your language competence - it's mandatory for ALL applicants. If either of you also speak French, you can get a few more points by taking that exam as well. If you both take the exam, you'll get more express entry points.

Some of the provincial nominee programs also accept applicants who are not already in Canada, if they are experienced in a high-demand occupation.

Sorry a time served joiner is a carpenter/ builder who has a done extensive training over several years. I will be newly qualified but have plenty of experience in other areas too. Only one of our three children will be classed as a dependant at the time when we would be looking to apply. How long does the whole possess take from start to finish.
Thanks.

You could get most of this information just by using the internet probably. I mean CIC website and google.

fairly certain you can only bring dependent children with you, your children who wouldn't be dependents at the time can't be included on your application. they'd need to either get their own work permits/get PR on their own merits or stay in England..
You're looking at at least a year for the process, supposedly 6 months from when you submit your application, but no one knows how long they'll be waiting for an invite and how long it'll take them to get the application together before they submit it.

Thank you. My older two are currently in education but by the time we apply they should be finished the eldest will hopefully have a masters in chemical engineering and the other be trained in construction but they will have little experience. I am just trying to gather as much info as I can at the minute so we are prepared for the process.

ok well without experience they might be better off applying for IEC working holiday visas. that would give them a 2 year open work permit in which they should try to get 1 year's work experience in a skilled occupation and then apply for PR themselves. Assuming they want to move to Canada of course.

I think you would have a good chance. Your husband's age will work against him, but his highly skilled job in a trade will help. He might even be able to get an LMIA-supported job offer before coming to Canada. Your money, once you sell your house, will be plenty for a family of 5. I think his trade would be particularly valuable in more distant provinces that are growing rapidly, if you are willing to live there. Good luck!

Carpenter - NOC 7271
http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2011/ProfileQuickSearch.aspx?val=7&val1=7271&val65=carpenter

He would have to be able to get detailed job reference letters that would demonstrate at least 1 year of full-time employment. Another option could be the Federal Skilled Trades program. If you know what province you want to settle in, he could start looking at getting his credentials evaluated by the provincial body that oversees the trades.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/trades/apply-who.asp

Depending on your work experience, you might also qualify and could be the principal applicant.

Thanks guys, the references will be no problem. As for his age we are not looking to relocate for another 3 or 4 year so he will be 46 but he does have a private pension which will be worth around 200,000 Cad which he has access to from the age of 50 would this go in his favour for his age. We are looking at Alberta but want to live more rural at least an hour or so away from the city.

your house sale will be more than enough. But no, a pension he cannot access at the time of landing is of no use (from CIC's perspective).

If Alberta is where you want to go, you should look into the PNP program.
http://www.albertacanada.com/opportunity/immigrating/ainp.aspx

Just a word of caution, tho - it's fine to start learning and preparing now, but you should know CIC is often tinkering with or overhauling its immigration programs. If you are eligible today, there is no way of knowing if you will be eligible 3-4 years from now (and vice-versa). Programs, rules, eligibility criteria can and do change. So you will have to stay on top of those changes, or (in order not to drive yourself crazy) just put it on the backburner until you're closer to wanting to apply.
