Indian Police clearance

I need to get the indian police clearance certificate. I am planning to get it from CGI fron NY. Please let me know whow long it will take normally.

It will take exactly 8 days for you to recieve the PC letter from the Indian Embassy.

This was the time taken for me to get my PC from Indian Embassy ,washington,DC.

I need to get my police clearance certificates. Since I belong to India does it not have to come from the local police station where I used to live in India? do we have to goto Indian embassy in US and ask for police clearance certificates?
