Senthil,

I am going to do the same as above for my husband (who is also Senthil). My travel date is March 20th. He received his citizenship certificate yesterday and applied for passport and asked for 9 business days category. So his passport pickup date is on Feb 27th. I will do the e-visa after his passport comes. Was the e-visa process easy? Just wanted to know. Is there any problem if we do the surrender certificate in tandem?

One more question on e-visa - we were going to apply for 5 years multiple entry as well. Is there any time limit for each visit? Our visitis around 5 weeks so a little over one month. Do they have any 30-day limit per visit?
For e-Tourist Visa (01 year / 05 years), the validity would be 365 days / 05 years from the date of grant of ETA with Multiple entries and continuous stay during each visit which shall not exceed 90 days
Except nationals of USA, UK, Canada and Japan. In case of nationals of USA, UK, Canada and Japan, continuous stay during each visit shall not exceed 180 days.

All, lots of appointments opened up at Toronto BLS. I see around 20 availabilities just for tomorrow. My husband was going to do a walk-in tomorrow for surrender but now he has an appointment. :)

My husband went to in-person submission of surrender application. It was very smooth. All done in 15 minutes. But they said there is no pickup available and that they will only deliver. So took $35 for delivery of surrender certificate and passport. The person at the counter also said "nowadays they say you will get it in 4 weeks" when he asked for estimate of delivery date. Hope this helps.

sharing my experience re Indian passport surrender - 2 failed attempts by in-person visits to Brampton BLS. my God only knows how badly I want to get rid of ALL dealings with BLS - the mini sarkaari daftar!

1 - we were told (even their website said) we need 1 photo (2x2)
NO - they asked for 2 photos - 1 pasted on the form, 1 additional

2 - it wasn't mentioned anywhere on BLS/CGI website that photos need to be stamped (like for our citizenship appln)
NO - they said the photos need to be stamped with date (studio details not needed, at least that is what the woman said at the counter)

3 - BIGGEST one - we can apply for passport surrender if we don't have a Canadian passport, by giving a declaration
NO - I was refused yesterday (17Feb). even though i argued that getting a passport is an optional step, i already am a Canadian citizen. but no they didn't listen. BLS and CGI websites and even the checklist says that I can give a declaration to this effect. so, i am now waiting for my passport to come.
FUNNIEST PART is that on my 1st visit to BLS on 16th, I was told that I should not write "applied for" in the foreign passport field on the form, rest everything was okay. I visited them again on 17th Feb in less than 24 hours, this time they said (including the girl who I met last time) that they can't accept.

Hi all

For those who surrendered their Indian passport, do they return back the original passport with the cancelled stamp ? Or is it retained by BLS itself ?
