Hello Everyone,

After acquiring canada citizenship,i need to submit my indian passport for surrender certificate. They will be cancelling my indian passport for the surrender.

I have USA visa stamp on my Indian passport - Dependent visa which is not B1/B2 . Since i will be cancelling my indian passport, will it cause any issues in port of entry for USA ?

Cant you use your Canadian passport for entry?

Before you send your passport for surrender, go through a US port of entry to attach your I-94 from current visa to your new Canadian passport. After you do that, you will generally not be asked for your Indian passport at US-Canada crossing and you can begin the surrender certificate process. The Indian consulate will return your old Indian passport with something stamped along the lines of “Passport canceled. Any valid visa within is not…”. All of this is only necessary if you have a non B1/B2 visa (like H4 or H1 etc.,) in your Indian passport. If all you have is a B1/B2 visa, you don’t need to port it and can travel with just your Canadian passport.
