Just a week, I renewed by August 2012. But the validity of passport -just 2 years.

I think it was ard $40 at VFS Global

If Passport is issued from Toronto minimum processing time is 15 working days.
If passport is issued by CGI Vancouver, minimum processing time is 4-6 working weeksIn case passport is Issued from India or any other Mission minimum processing time is 4-6 working weeks.
Don't know which applicable to me 15 days or 4-6 week

from where your current is issued? If India then 4-6 week time for you..
There is tatkal scheme also present.. Fees is around 200-300 $

I applied at VFS in brampton location. I applied in the month of december 2012 & they took 3 weeks to process. I didnt opt for courier as the guy working their told me that they had instances where passports were misplaced by courier guys. I went for pickup. The validity is for 10 years. If you have to renew your passport for emergency cases then they issue it for 1 year only. I dont know how the other guy in the thread got it for 2 years...

Based on my friend experience, he applied and he got for 10 years since he was primary applicant or work permit holder. For his wife who is dependent, they issued for 2 years.

I had a valid work permit when i applied for passport renewal at vfs.
that was lil weird they just issued a passport with validity of 2 yr
What's the current scenario? ie., regarding the validity?

That's absolutely correct. The same case was with me. 10 years for primary or work permit holders and 2 years for dependant. That's the only rule.

VFS is no longer partner with Indian consulate. All the request are either handle directly by CGI Toronto or BLS India at Brampton which has office in the same complex next to VFS. You can go to there website also and and check the status with the tracking number they will give you once you apply. Website:

for processing it takes 3 - 4 weeks. Also make sure that you give them separate self address envelope to return your passports. Although they are OK to use same envelope both for primary and dependent but sometime they just send primary passport and then you have to go and pick up the dependent passport.

That's my personal experience. All the best

Anyone recently renewed the Indian passport from Toronto?
If so please share the info.
What's the processing time and fee?
What documents do we need to attach along with the application?
