Indian Passport expiring while i wait for my canadian citizenship

Hello Everyone,
I applied for my canadian citizenship on 29th nov 2016 and got my receipt of canadian citizenship application fom CIC via email on 28th dec 2016. My indian passport is expiring in may 2017.
Will my citizenship application get affected because of this? If i get my passport renewed will i have to send my new indian passport copies to CIC? When i go for my citizenship test will they ask for passport?

You should be fine; there is no regulation in this regard, the only thing that you have to conform to while waiting for citizenship/after you have applied is the INTENT TO CONTINUE TO RESIDE IN CANADA.

Moreover, I believe that you will get done with citizenship around or before may 2017 --guessing from the spreadsheets of people who applied--4-6 months in average.....be hopeful and all will fine.

Thanks for your response . I received my AOR today. If i send my passport for renewal and for some reason i dont get the new passport / old passport ( as i will have to submit my old passport during renewal) until my day of citizenship test, will that cause any issues? Will i be refused to sit for citizenship test if i dont have my passport handy?

Hi arpit123,
when you go for citizenship test all they ask to see is Permanent resident card and test invite letter that does mention passport. However after test there is interview with citizenship officer. They do verify all passports expired and new to verify your physical presence based on stamps in the passport.
Therefore you would need your current passport for sure.
You might want to wait before you renew. It is quite possible that you would not even need to renew you would get Canadian Passport right way.

They check passport directly after the test, and yes, it will cause issues because they need to know travel history, entry stamps. So, I strongly recommend that you wait until after the test to avoid any hassle or delays in processing. Anyway, you still have till May 2017.
