Hi, I have a doubt/question - how is the PCC done for applications made at Indian consulates in US. I am in US from Last 5 years, in my passport the address is of delhi where I stayed with my brother , but now my brother and his family have moved outside India and I am in US, so if they go and try to find me or my family there they wont find nobody. Can anybody clarify how it works? FYI - in my Indian voter id card the address I have is my permanent address (in ancestral village where my parents live) which is different from the address in passport (where I lived with my brother in Delhi, where we both were settled). Any insight into how the process works will be helpful.

Also, are they going to keep my original passport till verification is complete? I have an iELTS scheduled for my australian PR application and passport is the only ID accepted for IELTS in US.

Plz advise. thanks.

I don't know how they verify. My passport was issued in London and has my Indian address so they have my Indian documents on record. That's why I got my PCC quickly. I was told that if they don't have the details here, then it will take longer as they need to verify it from the records in india. In my case, all verification was done at the time of passport reissue. They had to only check my criminal record which they would find nothing.

Indian PCC is also stamped in the passport so they will keep your passport and return it along with the PCC. They will keep your passport as long as they can verify your details. Mine took 10 days.

Hi Prakash,

Hope you are doing well. Congrats on the invite. Was it in the last round?
Well I got an invite in the last round and my situation is seems to be similar to your's. I am originally from india and have been living in the US for past 1.5 years. I need to initiate my police verification for both India and US I believe. Next would be medical for me.
Anyways I thought we are in a similar situation so pointed it out. Good luck ahead, would be happy to keep in touch if you'd like.

Hi xpressentry, I have a question. I see that FBI is charging only $18 for the background check (US PCC), so are they going to take money from that $18 to end me my report back? or did I miss something? thanks.

Yes, $18 charge includes the mailing fees too. They will send it out using USPS First Class Mail i.e. the regular mail without any tracking information. It gets delivered to any address in US within a week.

Hi, regarding Indian PCC , you have to provide current applicable Indian address on the PCC application form.. i had my old address on passport and it is not a concern when i applied.. they verify based on the address provided in the application form.. and i do think no one physically verifies physical address. i got my PCC in a week, guess they just run a check on their database for any records..

consulate do collect the passport and deliver together with PCC, so don't schedule your IELTS until passport is at your hand..

Hi Prakash.
Did you initiate the fingerprint process. I understand we need to get the fingerprint on a Fingerprint card (FD-258), it appears from the FBI website that a printout of this form should do but I read that sometimes local agencies prefer that a proper card material form be used, what are your thoughts? do you think the print on an A4 sheet should work? I would need to get the card from an FBI office, but that's a little far from where I live.

Yup A4 will work, I got mine and everything was ok and in fact got my FBI PCC in less than 7 weeks.

You can call fingerprinting services providers near you to see if they can provide card scans. They typically carry these with them ....

Call your local PD or Sherrif's office and ask them if they will be able to provide you the fingerprinting card. You can also get your fingerprints done there.
