Hi ,
First of all Congrats to all Indian CA .
Indeed its a top news for Indian CA earlier I made up My mind to do CGA but with this MOU I'm reconsidering My decision to opt for Canadian CA Only big hurdle is passing the Canadian Uniform Evaluation (UFE) Exam .US CPA has an reciprocaty with Chartered Accountant in Ontario but that route is very complicated .With MOU I guess CICA will reduce the Pass Percentage but still no harm in trying out
Im Indian CA and CPA from US.
Thanks

Planning in Autumn of 2010
Hi guys,

Can anybody tell me that in this changed scenario - ICAI and CICA signing MOU, does it make sense to go for CICA or CGA.Which is a better proposition keeping in view the duration of the course to be completed and cost factors as well as job opportunities based on the course you select.Also how tough is the CICA's UFE compared to the CGA professional level courses.As an indian CA i hv been granted exemptions complete exemptions till level 3 and part exemption from professional level courses of the CGA.Hence now since CICA has signed MOU with ICAI i was contemplating and a bit confused on which course to undertake.
PLs can somebody clarify.

Thanks

First Q 2014
thanks auditor and setcanada.

@ penpal - i am actually a novice to provide u any advice, but i think trying for Canadian CA would be better as it carry lil upper hand as compared to CGA. Can u please elaborate a bit on the exemption u hv got for CGA. Did u get these exemptions based on ur Indian CA or based on ur grad/post grad?

thanks

Vaibhav,

Even PG degree holders are also getting exemptions in most of the subjects but they have to clear approx 3 subjects in each before appearing in professional subjects in CGA & UFE in CA.

Full fledged CA will be exempted from these three subjects & can appear directly in UFE where other has to clear those.... CGA is also carrying the same weightage but i heard that CGA is easier then CA in Canada , the main hurdle for CA is article ship of 3 years....where after registering in CGA you will easily get job in your field with atleast a good pay.

This is what i have heard from one of my friend who is doing CGA in Canada & he is PG in Commerce..

Others please throw some light on it...

Here is the link http://www.settlement.org/site/ecareermaps/cga/path/path.html go step by step you will come to know how many papers you have to appear for cga i.e Indian CA fall under group 2 select and it will open the main page where all the information regarding particular subjects are listed.

@ Honeyjack
With MOU signed between ICAI AND CICA no need to appear for article ship Indian CA have to give only UFE exams and more info about MOU will be available by 4th March 2011.

Cga is an wonderful value addition but with MOU i guess we should go with CA only of course passing exam will be tough no second thought in that ,I'm waiting for more information that will be published in March if everything goes right than I will be opting for CA if any complication is their than I will evaluate My credential and will opt for CGA.

If anyone have more information kindly share

Thanks

The UFE Candidates’ Competency Map lays out two groups of competencies:

1. The pervasive qualities and skills — the “hows” of being a CA — which all CAs are expected to bring to all their work:
• Ethical behavior and professionalism;
• Personal attributes such as accountability,adaptability to change and the ability to self-manage, take initiative and add value; and
• Professional skills such as communication, problem solving and management skills.

2. The specific competencies, which are grouped into six categories:
• Governance, Strategy and Risk Management;
• Performance Measurement & Reporting;
• Assurance;
• Finance;
• Taxation; and
• Management Decision Making.

The UFE Candidates’ Competency Map clearly defines the level of proficiency you are expected to demonstrate on the UFE in each of these competencies.

Relative weight of the CA competencies for 2010[/b]
The business simulations of the 2010 UFE will reflect the following weightings of the CA
competency areas:
Pervasive qualities and skills.All simulations will require you to demonstrate proficiency in these qualities and skills.
Specific competencies Relative Weight
Governance, Strategy and Risk Management 5-10%

Performance Measurement & Reporting 20-30%

Assurance 25 — 35%

Finance 10 — 20%

Taxation 10 — 20%

Management Decision Making 10 — 20%

2 of the primary indicators on the
UFE must relate to Information
Technology (IT) competencies
(as shown on the Information
Technology Competency list in The
UFE Candidates’ Competency Map).
Scope of the 20

if articleship is Mandatory than why CICA sign MOU with ICAI? i.e US CPA has an reciprocaty with Chartered Accountant in Ontario and no articleship is required.
Their is no sense making an articleship complusory for Canadian CA Exams but ofcourse more information will be available after 4th March 2011.
