Can't we get India PCC from Indian Counsulate here?

we can. time line depends on the consulate. NY India consulate takes 2-3 weeks.

Chow:

Can you please share your experience with PCC from Indian Consulate, NY.

1) Did you send your passport when you applied or waited until they notified you ? The website says that we have to send the original PP when we apply.

2) Where was your current Passport issued...India or US (Indian Consulate).

TIA

Can someone please clarify:

1) How long is the India PCC valid for (or even the US State PCCs for that matter)?
2) Has anyone been able to get past with India-issued PCC as done by some folks here? That is to say not going thru the Embassy but directly from a local police station abroad.

I have submitted my AINP forms last month and still waiting for nomination response. Does it makes sense for me to start on the PCC work now or should I wait at least for the file #? I just don't want to spend the effort and money on this just to find out that they have expired by the time I get to the CIC stage.

Thanks all!

diva,

they needed a copy of my passport. they did not ask for all the addresses where i lived.
on my pcc they had my passport details, and only my permanent address. the pcc only says this person has no record etc, and there is nothing about "whole of the country".

nomad is right, I too had to submit the copies of passport to get the PCC from India and they refered to the permanant address from the passport.

I too sent my application last month. Considering current processing times, I think it's better to wait for atleast 2-3 months if you want to get PCC from USA consulate...

That is what I thought too! I am assuming that you would say the same for the US State PCCs as well, right? I think I read some place that they are valid for 3 months only.
Any idea how long the India (Foreign) PCCs are valid for?

Geting US state PCCs may take a maximum of one month as far as i know. So, it is OK to get them on 3rd month/4th month.

Not sure how long India PCCs are valid for. They must be valid for 3 months just like others but any experienced people can advise. Thanks.

The CIC websites says that the PCCs should be no older than 3 months. PCCs validity varies for different countries. Some countries say that PCCs are valid for 6 or 12 months. Canada says 3 months. So wait until your 3 or 4th month. They are not giving file numbers as far as I know right now, directly the nomination letter. For now, AINP says that processing time is 5 months... but non of us who applied in Jan have heard from AINP.

Okay, I guess then it makes sense to wait for a little bit!

This whole process of no file number and/or confirmation of all docs being okay really is not a good idea, in my opinion! I was under the impression that I will hear from them in a month or two at the most at least saying that the file looks okay. It is just stupid that you have to wait for up to 5 months just to hear that something was wrong with your app from day 1! Anyway, we can't choose here! :)

Thanks all for the replies!

sdesh005,

all those who applied in 2008 did get feedback within a month or so. things have changed since. they removed the pre-assessment step. also, applicants kept bombarding them with questions instead of just applying and waiting for any clarifications/additional documentation. this resulted in the dreaded "feb 19" changes, and extra scrutiny on their part. also, this option started getting publicity and h1b's started getting laid off resulting in increased volume in applications for ainp. oil prices have gone down drastically tanking albertan economy. global recession hit canada, and they want to stem allocation of pr's, hence no nominations granted for past couple months.

there you go. relax and take things as they come.

If they have a query, they will contact you. There were people who were asked to submit paystubs, or saying that a sheet of appln was missing long before they rcvd their nomination in 2009. Chk older posts ...

That makes sense! I am cool with waiting for however long it takes, as long as I am not left clueless for months together, without even knowing that something was wrong from day 1. And anyway, anyone in the US here on H1B and GC bandwagon know how to wait and keep hoping, if nothing else! :)

Thanks for the replies...
Cheers!

There are two steps when you apply from the Indian Consulate in the US. The first step takes approx 30 days (This 30 days is from a recent experience of my friend from Chicago). The next step is when you have to send the passport, and that gets done in about a week. (Again a recent experience of my friend who got it done from Chicago)

I already have PCC from Indian consulate from last year. Would I still have to get another PCC during CIC process? Does not make sense getting all the PCC stamped on my passport even though I have not left US since the last time I got the PCC from Indian consulate.
