Hi fellows,

Regulations regarding changes in PR application fees have been registered on March 16, and will take effect on Apr 30, 2020.

A lot of immigration programs are affected. For example, FSW applications that are submitted:
- Before Apr 30, 2020: $1040 ($550 processing fee + $490 RPRF fee)
- From Apr 30, 2020: $1325 ($825+$500) (increased by 27%)
- From Apr 30, 2022 (projected): $1380 ($860+ $520) (increased by 4%)
- From Apr 30, 2024 (projected): $1435 ($895 + $540) (increased by 4%)

(From Apr 30, 2022, fees will increase every two years corresponding to Canadian inflation rate, which is approximately over 2%/year => 4%/2 years).

So to save yourself from the 27% increase from Apr 30, 2020, speed up your application and submit it before that day.

Ridiculous increase. Do they think money grows on trees

It's certainly ridiculous from an applicant perspective, but not from a Canadian taxpayer perspective. Fees haven't increased in years and don't cover the costs to process files. The rest is paid by Canadian taxpayers. This is a move to reduce the cost of these programs to Canadian taxpayers and make Canadian taxpayers happy. This move makes sense politically given there's an election upcoming and given COVID-19.

As scylla said, not for taxpayers in Canada who, as stated in the publication, currently subsidize 65% of the processing costs for PR apps.

Agreed!
Hey Scylla, which Province do you reside in (if it's okay to ask).

How does it work for Spouse sponsorship applications since it's paper application (to be sent over postal mail) whereas fee payment is online. Will the application get sent back, asking the revised fee to be paid, if the postal mail won't reach by stipulated timeline?

Implementation, compliance and enforcement, and service standards

The Regulations come into force on April 30, 2020, at 09:00 am eastern daylight time (EDT).

Completed applications received before 09:00 am EDT on April 30, 2020, will be processed in accordance with the fee schedule in place prior to April 30, 2020.

Applications received on or after 09:00 am EDT on April 30, 2020, will be processed in accordance with the fee schedule established in the Regulations.

Applications received on or after 09:00 am EDT on April 30, 2020, that do not include the correct fees will be returned to the applicant as incomplete.

Evidence of the correct fee payment needs to accompany any application for a permanent resident program submitted to IRCC.

Does it also apply to those already received invitations and are in process of submitting? Or only to new profiles. Any idea?

It has nothing to do with ITA dates or profiles. As clearly stated in the link, it goes by the date that the application is received.

Hi all, I submitted and paid my application on April 29th night Toronto time. But AOR shows date April 30th. For my case, do I need to apply the new ee application fee, I.e. pay the difference? Please advise, thanks.

Which upcoming election?

Hi folks. I applied for express entry on 30th April 1 am EDT. Do you think I need to pay more? I received confirmation of application acceptance and that they are processing it.

I also have not received the request to submit biometrics that I heard was sent quickly after applying maybe because biometrics centres are closed. Am I right to assume that?

Please help.
