This has probably been dealt with before but here i go......i need advice on income requirements and document checklist for family class (spouse)I am sponsoring my wife.....

1.........it says there are no income requirements for me to sponsor her, but on the document checklist it says i have to get a print out from Revenue Canada showing proof of income (T4 slips etc.).I am curious to know why they need this printout if no income is required and also what happens if there is zero income on the printout for last year...It further states that one of the three main reasons for delay of issuing PR status is not submitting this printout with the application....what gives ????

2. How do i get to talk to an actual agent...to date i have had no luck getting through the 1 888 242 2100 dial system...says push 0 at any time to speak to an agent but all i get is a recording saying this is an invalid number blah blah blah

We are just starting the process so i am sure i will have a multitude of further questions so your input and help is most appreciated....Thx

Hi

There are no min. Financial requirements to sponsor your spouse.

You need to provide an Option C print out. It is necessary. If your option C print out states that you have zero income last year then so be it... just include the form to prevent any problems. Sometimes its better not to question and just do what is required. The option C print out only takes approx. 2 weeks in the mail.

About speaking with an actual agent.. I never had a problem calling the call center - it can be annoying with those automated messages tho... technology ugh!

I made a cover letter for my package to be sent to CIC Missisauga. This was optional but it is a great "checklist" other than the one they provide on line.

My case was pretty strait forward - Hubby was given visa in Passport within the min time frame of 30% of people - we were asked for Original Documents and that was it.

If i can give you TWO tips for this whole application is to make sure you do your medical and police check right before you send off the application. Medicals are only valid for 1 year. If your medical expires before visa is issued you will have to redo medical, the medical has to be valid in order to issue visa... this can add another 2 months on to your file.

Other tip is to pay all fees up front if possible... this will avoid them having to contact you for any additional fees.

Good Luck

Woww....KC416..that is quite a list

much appreciated......i finally got through to an actual agent who was very friendly and helpful.....we did have a laugh about all the comments you hear that canada is "easy" to get into.......whoever says that has never been through this process let me tell you...........it seems a tad excessive to my liking.

in any case will follow your advice as best as i can.....although i am terrible with paperwork, forms etc....so this should be interesting...

cheers

Yes i did pay all fees up front- I was able to afford to pay it at that time so I did.

It is not so simple getting into Canada - especially if you have a complicate case, or you have to go for an interview.

I know my list seems long but most of it is manditory. The other "stuff" is basically me providing more than enough proof that me and my husband are legit and bonifide.

I was really concerned since I met my hubby on vacation in his country, we had never lived together, we married after a few year of knowing eachother (many many trips and long long talks on the phone) and then applied a few months after we got married and I was a PR of Canada myself - knowing what i know now I would not of "stressed" as much but I guess in the end may of helped me get through within the 30% of applicants approval timeline.

I had not found this site until after I had applied and my file had been sent to my hubbies embassy and I had not known a single person who had gone through this... well except for my family who came to Canada.. but it was all family sponsoring family where you dont have to worry about "proving".

I may have gone a little overboard with photos, proof, boarding passes, recipts, letters from family and friends etc... but this was the one time i thought more was better....

As mentioned before i recommend paying all the fees up front if possible as well as sending off the package as quickly as you can after you have done the medicals.

One note on the Option C printout - if you haven't been living in Canada then you may not have one at all. I haven't lived in Canada since 2008 and sponsored my husband last year. You have to either provide Option C, or you have to write a letter explaining why you have not provided one. I just said on mine that my last tax return was filed for the 2008 calendar year and that I had left Canada after that and haven't been filing since, and that on that last return I had specified that it would be my last tax return. Was approved with no issues.

If you are a Canadian PR or Canadian citizen, you do not need any income to qualify. There is no set amount.
However, the visa officer does want to know that you and your wife can support yourselves once she gets here. So they want proof of any income you have. If it is low, you can still sponsor, but I would then include proof of any savings you or your wife has, proof of any support any family members can give, and evidence that your wife will be able to find a job once she gets here (if she is planning to work). Also write out a plan of what you two are going to do once she and the baby get here: where you'll live, how you'll support yourselves, etc.

Sharjil--Canadianwoman is correct. My husband left Canada in 1989 and has not filed Canadian taxes since, so no Option C printout. He is self-employed, so in his application to sponsor we included 12 months' of personal and business bank account statements to show that he has income, and account statements for his retirement accounts (we are 61). His application to sponsor me was approved without any further documentation. Good luck!
