Income Eligibility for Sponsoring/Co-Sponsoring Parents

Hi,

I am a Canadian PR living in US. I will be moving to Canada in January - 2019. I am looking to sponsor my parents in January 2019. To meet minimum income requirements can I show my US income for the past three years. I have US federal income tax returns and payslips as proof of income.

Unfortunately the income earned must be Canadian. You cannot include the income earned outside of Canada.

It shouldn't matter where the money is coming from. As long as prove it's legit, and it is liquid and is equivalent to the sponsorship threshold or more.

There is exceptions to this rule. See the relevant OP manual. In such case, sponsor living in Canada who declared income from foreign sources on their Canadian tax returns, can use this foreign income to meet the financial requirements for sponsorship.

Yes I know but in OP situation, they had not even move to Canada including the fact that they had not filed any Canadian income taxes. If OP had already been living in Canada and had declared their foreign income in their personal taxes then yes they would be eligible to sponsor their parents.

How about if we have moved say in Sep 2018 and now wants to Sponsor our parents in Jan 2019? We have Canada jobs but we have not yet filed any taxes yet. Are we still eligible? As per guidelines, it doesnt say that you need to file previous taxes but only that you can show income which satisfies Federal income category

Any thoughts?

No it states on IRCC website that all sponsors must meet 3 years of income requirement before they are eligible to apply. So you don't qualify if you don't have 3 years of income that meets the LICO + 30%
